iTunes Review

The organic sound of The Roots benefits here from herbal supplements like the guitar and the addition of lyricist Dice Raw. Things Fall Apart works cohesively when the lyrical content steps in sync with the overall theme. The duet with Erykah Badu ("You Got Me") is sweet as its message is strong. The collaboration with Common ("The Love of My Life") is powerful both lyrically and sonically (with Zap Mama fluttering in the background), but most of all psychologically. "Dynamite," "Double Trouble," and "Don't See Us" are all classic gas-pedal-mashed-to-the-floor Roots. Philly's finest always catch flack for not reproducing on record what they do live. This album is their convincing rebuttal.

Smooth As Hell

This Album is probably the roots finest work, its not as raw as Iladelph Halflife but is damm smooth and does have some quite harsh lyrics aswell as their trademark smooth ones from Black Thought, Dice Raw makes a few appereances which is great cos he rips everytime he's on the mic. ?uestlove steals the show as usual with the funky feel you never get from a drum machine which brings the organic feel the roots are known so well for. Malik B makes an appearance on 100% Dundee which is one of the best tracks on the album as is The Spark, You Got Me, Step Into The Relm and Without a Doubt.

Yes Please!

Purchased this on CD a few years ago, but lost it. Now I shall enjoy it once more! FANTASTIC ALBUM.

The Next movement...

So after having made a dope debut in the form of You Want More, and then having gone on to make a follow-up joint that has bona-fide hiphop classic stamped all over it, where do you go now if you're the Roots? Straight back into the studio of course! While this album feels, more or less, a straight continuation where 'illadelph' left off, there is a raw, harder, dirtier sound creeping in amongst the organic jazzyness of its predecessor. There are so many highlights to this album, so I'll only list a small handful: 'The Next movement', 'The Spark', 'Dynamite', 'Aint Sayin nothin New', 'Adrenaline', the gorgeous 'You Got Me' featuring Jill Scott & Erykah Badu... and I'm lovin' the nod to Schooly D. Know your hiphop, brothers and sisters.

Though popular success has largely eluded the Roots, the Philadelphia group showed the way for live rap, building on Stetsasonic's "hip-hop band" philosophy of the mid-'80s by focusing on live instrumentation at their concerts and in the studio. Though their album works have been inconsistent affairs, more intent...
