iTunes Review

Sound of Silver remains one of those career-defining releases that forces whatever follows it to be unfairly judged against it. Still, This is Happening is a worthy successor. James Murphy continues his eclectic rumble through the sonic jungle, coming up with amazing juxtapositions of melodic pop and disco keyboards and backbeats. “Dance Yrself Clean” begins as a slow rumination that slowly builds into an elliptical maze where the hall of mirrors reflects upon itself until the falsetto emerges amongst the angst and the beats gain in ferocity. At nine minutes, it accomplishes everything you could want. “Drunk Girls” compresses the punch into a succinct hit single that screams for the early 1980s as its lyrics burst through with pure hilarity. “You Wanted a Hit” is another epic. At nine minutes, it takes its good sweet time finding its way. With LCD Soundsystem, Murphy jams his entire record collection into the grooves, playing with sound like an experienced DJ who’s learned how to make the music himself. The vocal dynamics (supplemented by Nancy Whang’s backing vocals) turn each joyride into a trip to a land of great fantasy.

Wow

Everything I'd hoped for and more. If this really is the last LCD album then what a way to end it, 3 albums of sheer brilliance.

Excellent

After Many years of not getting round to buying an LCD album for one reason or another I decided to cash out on this - their final album.

The whole album is sublimely put together and finished. " you wanted a hit" and " one touch" stand out to me as the most acomplished on the album and I'm sure drunk girls will be an indie club floor filler within weeks.

As a result o this purchase I'm curretly working my way through the two previous albums

POW POW

I loved the album. However I do not know if it, or any of LCD Soundsystems work, could top Sound of Silver. This Is Happening is a fantastic album however, I love how open the album is, I genuinly believe that anyone could enjoy this album. To end though, it is a shame that these guys will make no more music. They are extremely talented, and to think that they will be doing nothing else recording wise, is a real shame.

Biography

Formed: New York, NY

Genre: Electronic

Years Active: '00s, '10s

LCD Soundsystem debuted with "Losing My Edge," a single that became one of the most talked-about indie releases of 2002. A self-effacing spoof of the outrageous p*****g contests that often occur whenever music geeks cross paths ("I was there at the first Can show in Cologne," etc.) laid over a puttering electronic beat with the occasional bursts of discoid clatter, the track was also one of the first released on the DFA label.
