almond at his best, gone is the cheesy pop, songs with meaning and feeling. dark, moody, and i love love love it!
Glorious Swansong
What an awful "official" review!!! This Last Night is a fabulous record, musically subtle, lyrically mindblowing, artistically courageous. Marc Almond was really champing at the bit - listen to L'Esqualita, the real centrepiece on the album, and you can see that he was pushing off into uncharted territory. And if you want "Proper" Soft Cell singles, you've got the rollicking Down in the Subway and the sublime Soul Inside.
One of the best albums of the '80s
Ignore the main review for this astonishing album. The ten tracks that make up the original release of this LP are an unequalled display of dark, edgy genius, demonstrating just how far pop can be pushed. Anger, pain and tension burst from every song, reaching the kind of emotional depths that cannot fail to thrill and exhaust you. Admittedly the B-sides add little - but stop after track 10 and I guarantee you're in for a hell of a ride.
