Soundtrack to a great film
This album is reminiscent of Swing Out Sister's 'Somewhere Deep In The Night' which was another set of songs where you could lie back and picture the scene being enacted in front of the music. The track 'Deep Down' even has the lazy latin sway of SOS's earlier effort. 'September' is a big James Bond theme nodding its head at Shirley Bassey, while 'Fragile' is a breathy big band jazz number that should have couples hanging together on a dancefloor and impossibly beautiful people blowing cigarette smoke over their champagne flutes while slouched around a table in the corner. And the closer 'Tree' should have Brigitte Bardot sashaying through the streets of the Rive Gauche. Good stuff.
A breath of fresh air
What an astounding artist! A beautifully crafted album that holds your interest from beginning to end. It moves through powerful sweeping James Bond style melodies, to the creative, almost instrumental voice of Stina Nordenstam or Bjork and throws in a smattering of jazz for good measure. The genre pop does this album no credit. But then what genre would you give it? It's a difficult one. Congratulations Madita!
