Mellow and Funky

After 25 years playing guitar with the legendary Tam White, Neil Warden releases his first solo album under the Blue Soul Groove moniker. Collaborating with Scottish musicians John Burgess (sax/flute), Ronnie Rae Jr. (keys), Bobby Heatlie Sr. and Ant Davies (bass).

Inspired by the likes of George Benson, Nile Rodgers, Larry Carlton, The Average White Band and The Crusaders, Warden has created a blissfully cool laid back groove album that’s strong on ‘melody and hooks’ as it is ‘cool and mellow’. The cover of The Crusaders ‘Put It Where You Want It’ showcases the bands obvious talent and skill. But not to be outdone Warden’s song writing skills put the rest of the album on par.

“I decided to record the album following the success of my Smooth Jazz and Cool Groove EP which was play listed on the now sadly defunct New York City CD101 radio station in the states.’ The EP sold over 5000 copies.’ But like so many musical projects I put it on the back burner to focus on work with Tam White, Boz Burell (Bad Company) and Borders singer songwriter Allie Fox.”

Recorded in Warden’s home studio the album is also testament to the burgeoning DIY music scene and Warden’s excellent production and recording techniques.

The album is already gaining critical acclaim and the title track will be ‘Record of the Week’ and play listed on Jazz FM Fusion Flavours in February 2011. Like the Average White Band before them the Blue Soul Groove collective shows that these Scottish musicians are as funky, mellow and cool as their celebrated US counterparts.

Whatever it is, it ain't wanky jazz

brillant album to have playing in the background whilst doing almost anything. A beguiling chilled record that just grows and grows with each playing. At the moment our preferred family driving record - and we don't often get a music luddite, a teenager and an old rocker to agree on anything - let alone something this smooth.
