Album Review
Featuring a sound described as handmade hip-hop blues-soul, Turntable Soul Music is the debut album from London three-piece Kathrin DeBoer, Ricky Fabulous, and DJ Modest, aka Belleruche. Influenced by acts as diverse as Nina Simone, Jimi Hendrix, and DJ Vadim, their Morcheeba-esque 2008 LP includes the single "Northern Girls." ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi

Northern Soul move over - there's a new girl in town!
Belleruche (Kathrin deBoer, Ricky Fabulous, and DJ Modest) have found a niche groove - dance music for adults - verging on NuJazz, with a lot of Nina Simone thrown in there.
Kathrin deBoer has a fabulously 'sloppy' style reminiscent of early Rickie Lee Jones, and the boys provide tight rhythms and hoooks to hang her great voice on to.
Can't wait for the next album - I'm wearing this one out - fast.
