ARGH!

What an incredible collection of new tunes and alt versions of classics. No complaints as far as that goes but... How very dissapointing you can't read the sleave notes and listen to the album at the same time. iTunes people, yeah you, you've really done something stupid here. sort it out... Please

Valleys Of Neptune

I've given it five stars because anyone who loves Jimi and his music, (as I have, including performing it, for over 40 years!) needs to hear it. It makes me sad to hear some of it though. Jimi's perfectionism is legendary. It drove Noel Redding out of the band. Jimi used to go for take after take, gradually, maybe to some, imperceptibly working towards that elusive master performance in which all the different elements would come together. In some of the outtakes of well known tracks (Red House, Manic Depression, Fire etc) which have been released you can hear this process at work. The outtakes are good, but the master is breathtaking. With these recordings, Jimi didn't have a chance to go through that process, and it might have transformed some of them into masterpieces. So this is Jimi's sketch book. We are privileged to be able to see into it. But there's another aspect which makes my heart heavy, and that's the toll that Jimi's life had taken on him by this time. He wasn't the fresh, exuberant, sensitive and spiritual romeo of Axis Bold As Love and sometimes this music sounds hollow and empty even a bit ragged in places to me. But there are flashes of what might have been. The title track Valleys Of Neptune shows his orchestral brilliance with guitar arrangements and his harmonic genius. And on some of the bluesier tracks you can hear his guitar technique developing - after all, he was only 26 or 27 when this was recorded. It's one for the aficionados perhaps, but it still reaches my heart and makes me cry for the wonderful soul we lost so young.

Another rip off album

Another album of rip off stuff that was not meant to be hear outside the studio and they are promising us another ten years worth of this type of stuff, get wise stop buying this stuff its only others milking the cow

Biography

Born: 27 November 1942 in Seattle, WA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '60s, '70s

In his brief four-year reign as a superstar, Jimi Hendrix expanded the vocabulary of the electric rock guitar more than anyone before or since. Hendrix was a master at coaxing all manner of unforeseen sonics from his instrument, often with innovative amplification experiments that produced astral-quality feedback and roaring distortion. His frequent hurricane blasts of noise and dazzling showmanship — he could and would play behind his back and with his teeth and set...
