gorgeous collection
I've been a fan of Marc since day one and I have to say, not since Mother Fist & Her Five Daughters (which incidentally is my top album of all time) has there been such a catchy and sing-a-long album from Marc. Stardom Road showcased the height of singing ability but of course were all covers, now we have the range and professionality combined with the cleverest of lyrics and melodies. The songs are upbeat but their nature bittersweet and the mix is spot on. I smiled at the lyrics of "it's all going on" and my heart swam to the story behind "sandboy". The standout track for me at the moment is "trials of eyeliner" which is like an autobiography set to the rise and fall of passionate piano. "lavender" reminds me of "what makes a man a man" and I'm amazed at the witty references and the images conjored up. Such songwriting skills of well observed subjects make this a definate keeper. Well done Marc, keep giving us what we love you for, BRAVO!
Fantastic Star
As this seems to be the 'last' Marc Almond album that he will record under his own name will it live up to previous glorious offerings?
As an artist Marc has always taken the difficult road to deliver his music, I know that he is not to everyones taste but this album is a gem... A typical Almond album and so much more, his voice seems stronger and yet manages to convey more emotion than previous offerings. I will admit that I am a fan and love his output but this swansong is a great start to the casual listener, it will transport you to a different world that will hold you in thrall. A must for all lovers of great music. Buy it now!
Amazing Marc
Marc does an amazing job yet again, this time with his own songs. A beautifully crafted album as only Mr Almond can do, the guy is so underated. Stand out songs Lavender, Trials of Eyeliner and Sin Song. I hope we get a selection of these songs during the tour. This is Marc at his very honest best and if you've been with him from the beginning you may even find yourself in these songs. Last but not least, the excellent Swan Song, seems to confirm he will be leaving us for a while, but when he's ready to come back, we shall be waiting!
