Album Review

Released in conjunction with Keith Richards’ 2010 autobiography Life, Vintage Vinos collects 14 highlights from the three solo records where he was backed by the X-Pensive Winos: 1988’s Talk Is Cheap; the 1991 live set Live at the Hollywood Palladium, recorded on the supporting tour for the 1988 debut; and 1992’s Main Offender. Five cuts were cherry-picked from each studio album and paired with four highlights from the live album (all songs recorded by the Rolling Stones, including “Time Is on My Side” and “Connection,” but they’re overshadowed by the reggae “Too Rude,” which allows the Winos to really stretch their muscles), and while there are some excellent songs left on the studio records (chief among them the Jagger-baiting ‘50s shuffle “I Could’ve Stood You Up”), the selections are expertly chosen and offer solid proof that when the Stones weren’t rolling, Keef served up some nifty rock and soul on his own, and even had a pair of minor classics in the hard-charging “Take It So Hard” and cool grooving Stax tribute “Make No Mistake.”

Lovely Album

I absolutely love Keith Richards' work, all of it. And this album is of absolutely no exception.
From hearing track one, I thought it was going to be a cheap attempt at recreating that Rolling Stones sound we all know (and hopefully) love. But then I realised he's doing a lot more than that.
His fusion of Funk, Indie and acoustic rock is a truly fantastic compilation of his latest works.
Although the snare drum throughout the tracks begins to (slightly) annoy me, I put that aside and listen to the song as it is, and to be honest I think it's great.
Truly being a pleasure to listen to this album, I feel that Keith Richards has a long time to go until he's going to stop playing and recording new material, but maybe it's growing a little old? I'm just saying, maybe he should experiment with different sounds and styles to keep new, old and critical listeners interested.
However, I'm fine with the way it is at the moment.
Top notch album!

KEITH ROCKS !!!

Whilst the Stones would fall high on my kind of varied list of Best Bands you don't need to be a Stones admirer to appreciate this album. From the opening track to the end it takes you on a journey of experience listening to this band. For its not just Keith the chemistry of this bunch of minstrels is of the type to produce a top of the range band which in this album has created top of the range music. Thanks guys

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

He's acknowledged as perhaps the greatest rhythm guitarist in rock & roll, but Keith Richards is even more legendary for his near-miraculous ability to survive the most debauched excesses of the rock & roll lifestyle. His prodigious consumption of drugs and alcohol has been well documented, and would likely have destroyed anyone with a less amazing endurance level. On-stage with the Rolling Stones, he epitomized guitar-hero cool as the quiet, stoic alter ego to Mick Jagger's extroverted frontman,...
