Revolutionary warfare with Damian Marley!!!!
Road to Zion is a tune and a half!! Open your ears and soul to this album: In this world of calamity, dirty looks and grudges and jealousy And police weh abuse dem authority, media crush we nuh know bout variety, boom. Damian's album is awesome! He reminds me so much of his father, the late and great Bob. Damian's voice is so revealing, so much like his father's, his music not only draws you to listen with your ears, but to listen with your soul.
Superb album, gifted artist.
I am someone whose normal choice in audio is rock, metal and hip hop, however I like to explore other genres as well. The difinitive reggae artist of all time, I am sure you'll all agree, would have to be Bob Marley, Damian's late father. Hence how I stumbled across this album. It is rammed solid with material that is reminiscent in places of the late great, but emerges in many songs with a style of Damian's own. My personal favourite is 'Pimpa's Paradise', a song that can only be described as beautiful, despite the harsh message it conveys so well. This is a must have album, and not just for reggae afficionados, but those who appreciate music at its best. If you don't own it, you should.
The son of his father.
I strongly dissagree with one of my fellow reviewees, there is no embarassment here to the marley name, on the contrary Damien has significantly furthered the Marley musical dynasty, something I for one thought not possible due to the timeless musical perfection that was Bob Marley. As a HUGE Bob Marley fan, I admit, I was skeptical before listining to Damiens album, but was actually overwhelmed at times with the same thing that drew me to his fathers music all those years ago, you can hear his basic love of humanity in every word he sings, he is sending out a loving message in every song. The re-working of Pimpers paradise gave me goosebumps immediately on my first listen, I can't agree more with another of my fellow reviewees, "you listen with your ears and you listen with your soul" I would just like to add to that with, "you also listen with your heart". Why do we not hear more of Damien Marley in the mainstream UK media? The mind boggles as to why, hopefully they will catch up soon. Damien is a new discovery for me, I found this album while skimming through reggae on itunes. Certainly the best new artist I have found for many many years. My fave's are "were gonna make it" "for the babies" "pimpas paradise" "move" "road to zion" "beautifull" "there for you" in fact there is not one bad song on here, I would fully recommend this album to anyone, whatever your musical preference.
