iTunes Review

Over the course of the early ‘70s, singer Vincent Furnier became Alice Cooper and by mid-decade the Alice Cooper Band ceased to function as a working hard rock group leaving Furnier on his own to soldier on as one of shock rock’s most controversial and convincing performers. Welcome to My Nightmare is Cooper’s first solo album. He collaborated with his old band’s producer, the formidable Bob Ezrin, and hard rock guitarist extraordinaire Dick Wagner, who together helped him design a tough rock sound not limited to the tried and expected. The title track, “Department of Youth” and “Cold Ethyl” keep their grounding in Cooper’s hard rock playground, however, the surprisingly sensitive ballad “Only Women Bleed” would be the album’s hit. Horror film legend Vincent Price adds narration to the intro of “The Black Widow,” emphasizing Cooper’s theatrical side which is pressed into service for the album’s closing numbers. They serve as a conceptual suite as the “Steven” character spirals through this “nightmare,” with glistening pianos couching his inner thoughts.

Customer Reviews

The Coop at his very best................

My dad educated me in the ways of Vincent Furnier when I was 7, and thank God he did. One of my all time heroes in music, Alice delivers, I truly believe, one of the best "start to finish" albums of all time, and, in "Only women Bleed", my FAVOURITE song. Ever. And man, do I listen to a lot of music!! Still can't believe he doesn't get the respect and place in history that he deserves. Okay, I've gushed enough..................

Classic Coop

Alice's first solo jaunt outside of the Alice Cooper band and the album that established him as a future force to be reckoned with. A pure classic.

Lost Classic

Its surprising how few people are aware of this album as it is a fantastic piece of work. It may be that it is to diverse and does not fit into any particular genre, but if you enjoy Alice Cooper's theatrical side then this will not dissappoint. I won't mention which are the best tracks as I feel it sits better as a complete work rather than broken down individually, its a personal thing but thats what reviews are about. Enjoy!

Originally, there was a band called Alice Cooper led by a singer named Vincent Damon Furnier. Under his direction, Alice Cooper pioneered a grandly theatrical and violent brand of heavy metal that was designed to shock. Drawing equally from horror movies, vaudeville, heavy metal, and garage rock, the group created a stage show that featured electric chairs, guillotines, fake blood, and huge boa constrictors, all coordinated by the heavily made-up Furnier. By that time, Furnier had adopted the name...
