For a great cause definitely. but as a song...
unlistenable. i hate this new tradition of the x factor finalists releasing a charity record. it's great that the proceeds go to a good cause but really, couldn't they just donate the profits from the (usually just as bad) winner's single. this kind of lazy generic balladry simon cowell is lazy enough to churn out should have stopped 10 years ago.
last year's mariah cover was cheesy and naff enough but a michael jackson a matter of months after his death is pretty shameless. the song was never his best but even still it's wrong that anyone's first single should be a cover of the king of pop. and they're all trying so hard to out-sing eachother i keep expecting my speakers to blow whenever danyl goes for those ear-abusing high notes!!
please stop killing music
ok ok, it's for charity, but does anyone think Cowell and the gang aren't earning out of it? give me a break. they're very clever here. they can kill any classic song they like, they get a guaranteed no.1 out of it, which they will go hysterical over, but you can't say anything bad about it or you're a 'bad person' etc.
put it this way - if these x factor charity songs weren't allowed to enter the charts, do you think they would still do them? not a chance. i'll donate directly to GOSH instead, thanks.
