Album Review
Inspired by World War Z, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and The Zombie Survival Guide, the Devil Wears Prada's 2010 Zombie EP is a loose concept about — you guessed it — zombies. The theme makes for a break from the screamo norm and finds the band in a rare light: having fun with a pet project. However, since a full album of songs about brutalizing the undead might be a tad wearing, singer Mike Hranica wisely chose to keep the running time short, with five songs under the five-minute mark. Keeping in line with the DWP discography, the band continues to progress further into metalcore territory, and this works exceptionally well, considering the setting (“In a sea of stinking rot — in a place where living humans are no longer the hunters”). Howls and growls perfectly fit with the plotline about blowing clumsy beasts to bits. For “Revive,” Hranca takes on the role of a gruff drill sargeant, insisting that “the cure is a shotgun,” while second vocalist Jeremy DePoyster sings narrative cleanly from the background, to observe that “All is lost in the flood of the living dead.” The Devil Wears Prada's usual sugary-to-brutal template is boosted by Zombie’s thick production, which includes computer-glitched thrash riffs, a symphonic action/horror score, and fake radio broadcasts. Everything adds up nicely to make for an entertaining, fear-provoking listen. [Limited copies include a comic book that illustrates the action.]

WIN!
In all honesty the album title did it for me, I love zombies myself. Yet another amazing installment from TDWP. would have been awesome if they could have made a full album for this, would have been fantastic. Anyway, this EP will not disapoint I'm addicted to every song although my favourite song would have to be outnumbered for its just atmospheric radio broadcast at the beginning truely blew me away, and then the song began and, my god. 5 stars.
Best EP I have ever heard
Haha this is absolutely amazing. Typical TDWP, loads of catchy singing and plenty of screaming!! I love the guitar riffs too, best song on the EP is Anatomy. Listen to at high volumes!!! Slight bit of bass, a lot of treble and loudness turned on!
Kiss my boomstick...
This EP is the greatest thing that 'The Devil Wears Prada' have ever released: FACT. Before hearing this sadly short EP, I found the work from this band quite grating, their structure always a bit boring for me, the lack of repetition tending often leading me to ask myself 'why would a band repeat none of what they write?' I have therefore always disliked the Devil Wears Prada, not just because of this, but because everything seemed a bit mismatched, the synth always jarring, the guitar a bit too noisy and the vocals a bit strange. HOWEVER, for me, 'Zombies' totally saves everything that this band has previously done for me. The prog element of this work is brilliant, their breakdowns even seeming far more mature, the writing flowing a great deal more than it has ever, and let us not forget the whole thematic approach the band has taken! Probably the coolest aspect of this band, the fact that they have made their concept Zombies, plain, simple, awesome and in metal now a lacking element!
I have always loved Zombie movies and games, by far the most brutal, and usually the coolest visually, and now that has been encapsulated for me in a form of music, but without the terrible production of perhaps other bands that take this area, or areas such as mutilation and the such a TAD TOO SERIOUSLY. Therefore for me, as I listen and write I am impressed, very impressed. Even the strange interlude in 'Revive' now contains this classic Zombie movie element of an atmospheric backing track, within another track! Very clever, and I think great for anyone who considers themselves a bit of a film, or game buff within the entire "Zombie" genre that is so well loved now. As I have previously said, the only thing that I find disappointing about this EP is that it is so short compared to their other work that I do not consider to be nearly as good, but maybe they have hit the nail on the head with length, as zombies could easily become a boring aspect for some.
