So Farewell then, AirPort

Last AirPort Time Capsule in use died; all that's left is Express, for which the old AirPort Utility 5.6 is preferable. The only redeeming feature of this otherwise mediocre app now is the curiously well-hidden Wi-Fi Scanner (in Settings for this app). Whatever ills may be made of in competitors' products, they do at least have web interfaces, and will not ceased to be supported merely because an operating system update breaks the app. I will miss AirPort for faff-free, world-beating stability, but as Apple no longer seems interested, it's over. Only the Ethernet bridges in my older devices are of any use now, and AirPlay in AirPort Express (another great invention that is now gone forever). So farewell then, AirPort.

Airport Utility

I question why this 'app' has not been updated since Sept 2014!!!!! It is now Nov 2017!!!!!

Perhaps is does not NEED to be updated since 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'! ???????

But if IS 'broken' since it has been THREE YEARS since last update, does that mean that is is NOT compatible with ANY version of iOS after iOS 8????? Current iOS is 11!!!!!

If NOT, then that would potentially or logically mean NO SALES OF ANY AIRPORT units since iOS 8.0????

I use iOS 10 on iPhone 5 - ONLY for Apple Music in iOS Music but with a different Apple ID than that registered with my iTunes/iOS Music on iPhone 6Plus, iPad Mini 4 both (iOS 10) & Mac Mini since Apple Music is NOT compatible with ANY of my 9800+ 'iTunes songs imported from cd's' (& cable synched to above devices) NOT being downloaded from iTunes Store, that are on these devices.

I was planning on getting 3 Airport Express units (since I already have multiple active speakers and 'radios' that do, or can use bluetooth) for multi room audio since that is cheaper than ONE 'Sonos Wifi Adapter' or ONE Sonos Play 3 speaker.

Should I now forget that idea???

I will give it more than ONE star if this utility IS fit for purpose (Airport units can't work WITHOUT it), & DOES work with iOS after version 8, after all, this utility only needs to handle a wifi 'airplay' (audio & data) connection between ios devices & router!!!!

Another great apple product

I was looking for a way I could play music stored on my iPhone 6s Plus to my teac reference 380 hifi. After trawling through website after website and watching lots of videos online about Bluetooth adapters etc I came across the airport express. I now have it hooked to my network and connected to one of the aux outputs on my amplifier. This now means I can airplay music to my hifi and so can my family and friends when they visit. It's great to add to any hifi with an aux output so you can now stream to it wirelessly. Sound quality is great as it's over wifi and not Bluetooth. Thanks again apple!
