Comprehensive Review

I accidentally downloaded Birds of Britain & Ireland (I meant to download Birds of Northern Europe), however this was quickly resolved with the new update which allows you to purchase the additional species at £2.39.

This is a great easy to use app, although a little expensive. I would highly recommend it as both a reference in the field and as a way of brushing up on things like bird calls. I have listed below the things I would like to see followed by the points I like and dislike:

• I would like to see the species list expanded to incorporate Southern Europe; this is a popular holiday destination for many UK birders
• A “close all” button for the family names view would be helpful, I tend to leave them open and end up scrolling down a huge list
• It would be good if this was in some way linked to Bird News Extra, or is this a separate app in the offing...?
• Very easy to use, the menus are simple to scroll through, making navigation to a particular species quick, just what is needed in the field
• The search icon is small and took some time for me to locate
• The Concise BWP comments are excellent and contain a considerable amount of information (although I would like to know how up to date this is?)
• The same applies to the included maps
• The pictures are adequate, however, I don’t think they would replace my Collins guide
• The photo quality varies considerably, whilst some photos are very good, others are mediocre.
• The recorded calls for most species is of high quality, however there do seem to be a few species were the recordings are inadequate

Well done Birdguides, I hope you take on board some of my suggestions and comments.

Too expensive for what it is

I purchased this app by accident (computer clicking issue). I thought might as well use it.
# there is no search facility
# looking for Sparrow I found it under "House Sparrow". Have to find finch yet. One would have expected a wider cross referenced library and hotlinks to families etc. I found non.
# there is a big overlap between this app and "North European birds" by the same vendor but it seems you have to pay double to have both. Greed won't get them anywhere!

Everything considered comparing this app to dictionaries or similar apps this App doesn't worth more than £5

.CK

This is very good, but you need to add little bittern, now nesting in Somerset alongside regular breeding bitterns which are not on map in somerset. Also seen glossy ibis in Somerset as a rarity.
