Description

An app to help bird ringers, nest recorders and scientists check the correct ring sizes/codes to use for each bird species ringed in the UK (for both full-grown birds and pulli) and the codes needed to record nests and their contents. The app also includes the codes needed to record biometrics, condition and status information for each bird as well as the standard habitat codes.

What’s New

Version 2.0.1

The app has been updated with an improved look and feel, and now contains the latest species data and additional resources for both ringers and nest recorders. When launching for the first time, you will need an internet connection. Once the required data has been downloaded, the app will continue to work fully offline.

Brilliant but could do with a little more

Can’t live without this app as a field ecologist it’s very handy to have reminders of species codes. There are a few species missing from the app so that could do with a review, but as of lately, the links to the BTO website are now broken, since the BTO have updated their website. I hope these links will be fixed / re-linked, as it was also handy to be able to click ‘browse link to BTO Bird Facts’ to find out more on the species RE more detail about their protection status. Unless of course this info can be integrated into the app, which would be even better as you are then not reliant on mobile signal to get quick information.

Hope BTO support this app more, it’s an invaluable tool for field ecologists / surveyors, not just bird ringers.

Very handy backup reference

If you should catch an unexpected species and don't carry Ringers Manual, or have that handy index sheet in the back of Svensson or Baker... It's all here, plus a bit. I like the link to BirdFacts. Are we heading towards Svensson Online?? A word of caution to trainees - this is a handy backup reference, NOT a substitute for time spent with your trainer, or reading (and absorbing) Ringers Manual.
