Description

★ Frommer's author's personal Seville city guide ★

There are already several travel apps available for Seville... So why choose this one?

It's UP TO DATE
Latest update January 2012.

An author who REALLY knows the city
I'm author of Frommer's Day by Day Seville and Frommer's Complete guide to Seville, Granada and the Best of Andalucia. So, I know the city inside out and lived there for large chunks of time. I have many great friends there and visit frequently from my base in the UK.

UNIQUE CONTENT written specifically for an app
I think other Seville apps fall into two categories
- apps featuring user generated content or basic info often created by non-UK/US companies so quality of grammar and language is sometimes quite poor. And... it might say 'free' but you'll find you only get a taster guide and have to pay to download the full app.
- the product of a guidebook publisher taking a guidebook and trying to squeeze it into this new format.
This app has been written from scratch, in English(!), by a professional travel writer who knows the city really well - so it really works.

CAREFULLY SELECTED places, hotels, restaurants and bars
Is more always better? People seem to judge apps on how many hundred entries they have and I just don't get it. Who needs 300 entries? Give me 100 that are really good and forget the rest!
So, you will find other apps offer more entries than mine - that's intentional. I've only selected places, hotels, restaurants and bars that I really rate. I've focussed on mid-range to luxury hotels and restaurants, so if you're a backpacker or a student, this app probably isn't for you.

Bespoke self-guided WALKING TOURS
The functionality of most travel guide apps is pretty simple - a database of entries that you can search and locate on maps. Whilst this one is similar, I've tried to make it a little more intuitive. Key sights are organised by walking tours as well as by location. There are three of these tours: one that details the best sights, another diving into the tremendous works of art on show around the city, a third offering a tasty tour of my favorite neighborhood tapas bars.
I plan to add more soon and I'd value feedback about how people find them.

All content - including maps - available off-line
Avoid costly roaming charges - once you've downloaded the app you have it all - including the maps.

So... why not REALLY explore Seville?

★ About the Author ★

I'm an award-winning travel writer, photographer and broadcaster based in Brighton, UK. Over the past decade or so, my travel writing and photographs have appeared in most of the UK’s national newspapers and specialist travel magazines. I also recently spent a summer wearing covert camera gear as an undercover reporter for ITV’s Holidays Undercover.

My obsession with Andalusia began with a weekend break to Seville in 2000 and I've been going back for more ever since. (Maybe it’s the wine?) I'm the author of Frommer's Day By Day Seville and Frommer's Seville, Granada & the Best of Andalusia. Seville is more or less a second home these days and I spend a good chunk of each year there

Customer Reviews

Guide is good but offline maps buggy - cost roaming charges.

We found the guide quite useful for sight seeing.

Food wise we sought out one restaurant that was recommended but it stank so much of bleach we didn't stay, which put us off trying the other suggestions.

The maps are a great idea in principle (i.e. seeing what attractions are near using GPS), but in practice we found that even with the 'offline maps' option turned on, the maps weren't loaded in when we arrived in Seville. I had to enable roaming to load the data in, which obviously isn't great considering the cost.

3 stars, this app could be better.

Fantastic App

Brilliant app, lots of great hints & tips, walking routes from Jeremy who clearly knows Seville well. Being picky only thing that could do with some work is the in app maps. Maybe an option to use the full google maps would be good. That said the in app maps are good enough for finding most sights.

Really helpful

Just got back from 4 days in the city and found this app invaluable. The info about the city and suggestions of places to go we're brilliant. But the map was probably the most helpful of all - being able to see a map of the city with your GPS location without using any data roaming was amazing.
Thanks.
