LetterMpress is now FREE!
LetterMpress is a creative environment that lets you design beautiful compositions with vintage wood type and art cuts on a virtual hand-driven printing press.
LetterMpress gives you the experience of producing your designs on a letterpress — placing and arranging type on the press bed, inking, and then turning the hand crank to make a print.
Every step in the printing process is replicated on the iPad, to give you an authentic, interactive experience.
Try something new. Experiment. Have fun! You’ll soon see why the art and craft of letterpress is becoming so popular.
LetterMpress is easy to learn and fun to do, but it’s not a toy. Create designs with authentic wood type and vintage “art cuts.” You can mix custom colors and make multiple impressions on a single sheet. The specially designed studio environment lets you create and save several variations. With LetterMpress you can create:
• Fine art posters
• Event posters and mailers
• Invitations
• Music CD covers
• Greeting cards
• Scrapbook covers and interior pages
• Signage
• Calendars
• Framed wall art, and more...
Once you have created your prints you can share them with anyone via email, Photo Album and more. The files can be opened or imported by most popular graphics applications, allowing you to integrate authentic wood type and art impressions into your design palette.
Type and art that comes with LetterMpress is royalty-free for personal and commercial use.
LetterMpress is currently only available in English. Only the options in the "Share" menu have been localized.

Brilliant
Absolutely brilliant !!!! I have been trying to find a way to merge letterpress with iPad, and this brilliant. I admit its still a little bit slow and clunky but I think this is in keeping with the tradition of letterpress
Wonderful
I adore this app, it's quirky and old school and has heaps of creative potential. I've spent many a happy hour playing with text - just like when I was a child with a rubber printing kit or back at art college rolling the printing press. Except this is MUCH easier and far less messy. The sound effects really suit the whole feel of this too. It's a great contrast between the old and the new doing this on an iPad. Bravo developers.
Yes - if you don't alter the size of text before you start laying it, getting it all the same size with fingers is too fiddly to be precise.
I'd like to see a quick way to clear the composing area. I save an empty tray to load - am I missing an easier way?
I'd also like to see more fonts and pictures. Maybe an option to purchase various extra sets?
But my quibbles are minor. This is one of my favourite apps for creating graphics. Thanks 💖
This takes a lot of planning, but well worth it.
This is better than my old John Bull Printing set. It takes planning, and patience. I found it quite mindful with the setting out.
Read the instructions ❓before you start. Plan your letters and icons out, colour & print then keep. Then use the same sheet with different letters & icons but with a different colour ink etc etc
