Dropped a star!
I suppose I should feel better because I've been protected from the massive price hike but I don't because there is now a free version which appears to do everything that the version I bought originally does. Granted, I have had the use of Ignition to control my home Macs from different parts of the world - last time, in Singapore, it got me out of a massive foul up when I lost the home page of my website because of an FTP problem with a hotel ISP and for that it was worth the price many times over. However, the free version (LogMeIn) can still control a Mac remotely. The ability to access files on Macs at home is a bonus but I haven't found myself using it more than a couple of times. Still, it is nice to know it is there.
I had all sorts of crashing problems when I started up the latest version on my iPad but it worked straight away on my iPhone 4 so I shut down and restarted the iPad and it seems to have settled down.
The user interface for the cloud services is a bit odd because your eye is directed to the prominent 'My Computers' in the middle of the screen while access to My Cloud Bank is through the little icon at the top right (iPad) or bottom right (iPhone). I didn't spot that at first and spent a while wondering where it was. Can I suggest to the developers that they implement the swipe system found when you click that icon on the iPhone at the top level instead of having to click the icon first? The iPad version just shows an array of page thumbnails but I'd suggest a swipe from the front page to take you to your files in the cloud would be an improvement - that or a direct link under My Computers to My Cloud Bank - there is plenty of room.
I had no trouble accessing my Dropbox folder though that initially caused most of the crashes on the iPad, but I wonder whether it is of much direct use because I can access all my files, rather than just a subset which I have to remember to keep current, by logging in to the file manager on one of my Macs.
I believe that the price hike will kill this app, which is a pity. However, LogMeIn have been kind to their existing customers and another app I use a lot has cost me more than £69.99, having reached version 4 with a paid for upgrade every step of the way.
Perfect
Pricey, but stable, intuitive and powerful remote access application.
