Based on Chris Manley's British Moth and Butterflies: a photographic guide, and accessing the fantastic resources of UKMoths.org.uk as well as distribution maps from the National Moth Recording Scheme when online; this astonishing resource covers an amazing 2,147 species of lepidoptera found in Britain and Ireland. This comprehensive resource provides beautiful macro photographs of most of the micro and macro moths, including butterflies as well as eggs, larvae and pupae, leaf-mines and characteristic plant damage of some species. The photography is stunning, and is proof that moths are not dull and brown.

Brilliant but....
This is a great application. Very comprehensive but...
It needs a search function. It really badly needs a search function.
It is essential for this to have a search function to make it a complete app.
A search based on colour, size etc would be simple to implement and would transform this app.
There are a number of applications like this without a search function and they are excellent if you already know where to look,
but without searching facilities it is almost impossible for a non-expert to use in the field.
2147 species. Great but try looking through them manually!
Moths and BUTTERFLIES of Britain & Ireland, version 1.0.2
This app is a con, in a way. The title is as shown above, BUT can somebody tell me how to find the BUTTERFLIES.
This aspect is very disappointing, so Be Warned !!!
Otherwise the production is professional and impressive.
Lazy database
Little programming effort has gone into this app, it is basically a dump of a database, with online links through to ukmoths web database.
No effort made to allow for intelligent searching, for id purposes, for example. If you know what you are looking for you can find it, if not, forget it....
Ok lots of species are represented, but poorly, comprehensive it is not....larval forms are not shown in many species, for example.
Descriptive text is ridiculously basic for such an expensive app, and large parts of the system can only be used with an internet connection....Ridiculous.
Photos vary from very poor to reasonably ok, nothing special.
NOT worth £15 by any way shape or means.....
