Barely operational - still a long way to go (Read the last sentence please)
***IF IT'S TOO LONG - PLEASE READ THE LAST SENTENCE***
Out of all the software Apple has shipped onto iPad, iWork was the least throught throug and the least comfortable to work with. The current incarnation is still far from anything I could really use on a day-to-day basis (even with a presence of a keyboard). There are some reasons why:
1. CONTROLS - It irritates me that I can't adjust the instruments on the panel board; some people may never use tabulation, however would love to have constant access to colour/spacing. Even that's not the biggest problem: menus are clumsy, and if you make a mistake and press not exactly where the button is, chances are Pages will do something you don't want it to (like go to the beginning of the page).
2. FORMATTING - The app has a mind of its own when it comes to setting the spacing between lines. It's not uncommon for it to start using 1.5 when the original document was in 1, say.
3. SPELLING - Try writing a document in more than one language: the second you change from, say, English to Russian, all the English words will be highlighted as misspelled - it's bizzare.
4. TECHNICAL FEATURES - Apple makes software for everybody to use, however a lot of users have technical needs. I don't understand why it's so hard to add maths or even LaTeX capabilities. After trying a few apps on iPad, I have to admit that to do such a (non-demanding) thing as creating a good paper/homework I still need my Mac; I cannot sit down somewhere with my iPad and my keyboard and type away. (Pretty much the same applies to Numbers - it's only good for data collection, inputting formulae is already a pain).
**ALL iWORK USERS - THERE'S A CALL FOR YOU*** I know that Apple listens to the users (sometimes) - so instead of giving this app a 76-star rating, think about what you actually would want to see from the new update; what is missing. I really want to see Pages at a level where I would not need anything for text-processing, and I believe it is possible to achieve it. And boy, even my current iPad 2 is faster than the computer I've had 10 years ago, yet in this bright Post-PC world, my ancient computer could do more in terms of word processing. More work is needed here
Absolutely terrible!
I'm sorry apple but this is a complete load of garbage.
I work and make lots of notes and reports onboard aircraft. I downloaded this because of the way it has been marketed, 'a wonderfully simple processor that's easy to use'......
Well, far from it in fact. Firstly, the import of photos into a document anything over 2 pages long is very difficult, the photo inserts where ever it wants to. Ie. I wanted a photo on page 46 and pages decided it would insert on page 22 - and re adjusting photos within the app is far from easy.
The spell checker in comparison to Microsoft word is awful.
Then the real problems come - after dealing with all the little problems, I tried to export my report! Oh boy.... Don't bother, it took me 4 hours!
If its over 50 pages you can't send by any means at all. You can't even compress the pictures for email within the document settings as you can in Microsoft word.
If there's more than a few pictures you can't email the thing... In the end I had to connect my iPad to my laptop to transfer the work and even then when I opened it in word the pictures and writing were not formatted as i set them out...
Oh and iWork is a joke! What's the point in cloud computing if your going to limit an upload at 50MB
Don't bother unless you want to create a crappy little document about a giraffe as seen on the apple preview of the app - if you need to produce any substantial work this app is terrible
Attachments
I need to send multiple attachments almost every day.
With pages you are limited to just one at the time. Apple keeps on saying that you don't need your Pc/Mac but still I have to go back and use them just to send emails with multiple files
