A Treasure
I’ve been using Planets now for over five years, so it’s high time I review it. Whether you’re trying to pinpoint the Moon, a planet, or a constellation in the sky; wondering at what time each body will be visible during the day or night; curious just how many moons one of the outer planets has; or my favourite feature - checking out what the sky looks like from anywhere else on the face of the Earth, then Planets is the app for you. It isn’t just an essential tool for stargazers, but anyone stranded in an unfamiliar place and trying to get their bearings, I’d argue Planets might just save your life. I’d like to personally thank Q Continuum/Dana for putting this app in the store and continually supporting and updating it through all these years. 👍🏻
Really useful for beginners
I downloaded this app a few months ago and use it regularly, it is incredibly simple to work and the 3D map makes it easy for someone like me with zero background knowledge of astronomy, I’ve only had one occasion where the app did not sync up correctly with my phone and had the planets a few hours out but resolved itself after I closed the app and restarted it. Bought a pair of Binoculars and a telescope after using this app. There are no ads or anything you have to pay for unlike many similar apps. Great little tool
Thank you
This app was among the first I installed on my first iPhone, the 3GS!
That was over a decade ago, and yet this marvellous little app has stuck around, and has thankfully been updated to remain compatible on new devices all that time.
To put things in perspective, a younger me downloaded this app just out of curiosity, to see what the built in sensors and gps on my new phone could do, and now I get to use it to explain to my children what a certain blob in the sky is, how the solar system looks from our perspective, or to help identify constellations of stars, etc.
Having this app to hand all these years may well have helped fan the flames of interest that led my daughter to ask for a telescope for her 8th birthday last year.
Thank you to the devs for sticking around and keeping this project available.
It really is an incredibly powerful resource to have in your pocket.
