Description

THE INCIDENT is a fast-paced, retro-style action game. Run, dodge and jump your way to safety as an angry rain of just about everything in the world falls and builds a mountain of platforms for you to climb up, up… up to the source of it all: the cause of THE INCIDENT.

"This iPhone/iPad game is really great - get it! $2. It makes me laugh every time I play it." —John Romero, Designer of Wolfenstein 3D, Doom and Quake.

"A game you pick up quickly, but can't put back down." —Engadget

"Gaming's Most Charming Vision of the Apocalypse" —Gizmodo

"The controls work well, the graphics look cool, it's universal from the get go, and I really dig the whole concept behind the game." —Touch Arcade

"Terrific little indie games like this are what make the iPhone platform really shine." —TUAW

THE INCIDENT is easy to pick up but hard to master. It's a totally new gameplay concept and it's perhaps TOO addictive. It's loaded with power-ups, power-downs (d'oh!) and collectables.

The Incident...

For £1.19, this app is really good value. That's roughly 10 minutes of work (for me), to put it into context, for what is hours of fun. The 8-bit visuals are incredibly charming, as is the music and the references to mario certainly raise a smile (mallets etc). The gameplay is incredibly simple, yet addictive and the hundreds of different objects that fall from the sky continue to amuse, especially when new ones keep falling. So far, the app had been very light hearted and enjoyable, and has been well thought out.

My only concern is that it doesn't look particularly long and looks like it lacks depth, however after checking the official site for The Incident, the developers are currently working on updates to keep us satisfied. For me, I'm very happy with this little gem - reminds me of the good ol' SNES and Megadrive days :D

Well, looks like something to burn away some spare time later today.

One of the best apps yet

Every single time I purchased a really good app I could never be bothered to write a review but this app was so well put together I felt like I had to.

This is one of the most fun and polished games on the app store and pretty much every aspect of the game is perfect - from the incredible retro graphics to the cool trophies you get when you die I found no flaw. It's quite similar to Canabalt due to its graphics and simple pick up and play gameplay but it has much more replayability. This app is perfectly suited to both the ipad and the iphone and its good that the game is available for both platforms with one purchase. I have a 3rd generation ipod touch and wifi only ipad and I didnt experience any crashes.

What iOS Was Made For

Wow, surely one of the most well-made and fun games on the app store. The enthusiasm of the creators is so infectious when you pick up the game (and play it for several hours into the night as I did!).

For me, the best games were always simple but extremely well made and compelling (I'm thinking of the original Super Mario Bros). The Incident follows in the footsteps of these retro games in both style and execution, but with the benefits of today's technology (high quality touch-screen, accelerometer). The result is fantastic gameplay and a perfectly appropriate and nostalgic soundtrack. The falling pixel-drawn objects are a delight to watch (and dodge!).

It's true art, and I highly recommend it.
