Biography

Named after her passionate and exuberant personality, Scarlette Fever is the pseudonym of acoustic pop singer/songwriter Karen Barrow. Born in Hertfordshire, England in 1982, she grew up listening to her mother's records by Matt Monro and the Carpenters (whose lead singer she was named after), and after passing her A-levels, she put her ambitions of becoming a marine biologist on hold in order to carve out a career in the music industry. After unsuccessfully auditioning for British R&B girl band Mis-Teeq, she earned her living as a wedding singer, before recording a ballad-heavy album that was never officially released. Its lack of success prompted Barrow to reinvent herself, under the guise of Scarlette Fever, and after teaming up with former Sony A&R manager Diane Young, she co-wrote material with the likes of Metrophonic (James Morrison), Grant Black (Craig David), and Julian Emery (Lissie). After supporting Roachford on their U.K. tour, her debut album, Medication Time, named after a line in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, was released through Starfisch Records in 2010, and included the singles "Crash and Burn" and the John Barry-sampling "You Don't Know My Name." ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi
