Publisher Description

Double acts don't come any closer than the The Two Ronnies. Messrs Barker and Corbett kept a nation laughing for two decades, and yet despite the rigorous work that went into writing, rehearsing and broadcasting almost a hundred episodes to millions of viewers each week, the pair never shared a cross word. In this memoir, the late Ronnie Corbett tells the story of their rise from theatre, through The Frost Report and into their own legendary show, as well as how some of their greatest sketches, including Mastermind and Fork Handles, came into being. This is the story of one of the great British institutions of the last thirty years, and a hilarious and moving look inside the working lives of two of our most-beloved comedians.

Great autobiography of the Two Ronnies

I wanted to write a review as the only one so far has missed the point. If you're looking for an autobiography of Ronnie Corbett then read 'High Hopes' which is great. This is, and the title gives it away you would have thought, an autobiography of the Two Ronnies as a double act. It's a brilliant read :-)

More The Two Ronnies rather than Ronnie Corbett

I wanted to read an autobiography of Ronnie Corbett, this book almost delivered on that. There are insights into Ronnie C, but there is little on his early life, his family and upbringing. There is also surprisingly little on many aspects of his large volume of work. What you do get is the story of one of the most successful British double acts from the point of view of one half of that act.

The majority of the book tells the story of Ronnie C's career and friendship with Ronnie Barker. There is very little written first hand about the great Ronnie B so this book gives wonderful insights and recounts many of the highlights of their long and successful career as a double act. There are even some scenes written verbatim, including the brilliant Fork Handles sketch (surely this makes the price of the book a steal in it's own right).

I ended the book feeling it was a good read on the autobiography of The Two Ronnies written by one half of the act. What I felt was missing was a complete autobiography of Ronnie Corbett.
