So different to the film.
Love conquers war
Wonderfully woven story of how life before, during, and after World War II in the Ionian Islands of Greece. It’s a long read and sometimes hard to follow the chronology as the structure isn’t so straightforward. Sometimes slow, sometimes fast. The examination of the different varieties of love is especially touching. Absolutely worth a read.

Captivates the beauty and rawness of Cephalonia within it's 20 Century history, which witnessed the sheer brutality of mankind and the imprisonment of its inhabitants. Both painful and captivating a read such that it feels that every written word was exactly as if it had actually happened. A masterpiece of story-telling which makes the famous same titled film feel like a Jack and Jill story.
