*The Sunday Times Bestseller*
It is 1969 and James Bond is about to go solo, recklessly motivated by revenge.
A seasoned veteran of the service, 007 is sent to single-handedly stop a civil war in the small West African nation of Zanzarim. Aided by a beautiful accomplice and hindered by the local militia, he undergoes a scarring experience which compels him to ignore M’s orders in pursuit of his own brand of justice. Bond’s renegade action leads him to Washington, D.C., where he discovers a web of intrigue and witnesses fresh horrors.
Even if Bond succeeds in exacting his revenge, a man with two faces will come to stalk his every waking moment.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Bestselling author William Boyd—who was nominated for a Booker Prize for his novel An Ice-Cream War—was tapped to continue the James Bond legacy. Set in 1969, Solo opens with the super-spy celebrating his 43rd birthday alone in a posh London hotel, but the action soon moves to a small African nation torn apart by civil war. In quintessential red-blooded style, 007 quickly achieves his official mission of ending the conflict—but at a high personal price. Boyd’s crisp, spare writing and astute psychological insight heighten the tension as Bond embarks on an unauthorised mission to unearth the truth and exact revenge.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Hood tells the story of Pyotr Popov, a Russian intelligence man recruited by the CIA early in the Cold War as a double agent.

Solo
An interesting enjoyable construction !!
Great characterisation
If you like a book that builds a strong character as the book progresses then this will be a great read.
Boyd gives us a great insight into the character of Bond through his descriptions of food, drink, cars , Bond's past life in the army and his colourful and transient 'relationships'. The character of Bond strengthens throughout the book. Even those who have never read Fleming's books or seen the films will know Bond well after reading this book. The plot was credible and well developed.
Oh Dear!
What a disappointment, loved Ian Fleming and bought this hoping for something similar. Sadly I was let down and mislead by the reviews others had given this poor attempt at Bond. Anyone who gave this more than 2 stars should be ashamed.
