Publisher Description
#1 New York Times bestselling author John Sandford's 'haunting, unforgettable, ice-blooded thriller' – first in the Lucas Davenport series!
The killer was mad but brilliant.
He left notes with every woman he killed. Rules of murder: Never have a motive. Never follow a discernible pattern. Never carry a weapon after it has been used...So many rules to his sick, violent games of death.
But Lucas Davenport, the cop who’s out to get him, isn’t playing by the rules.

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
In Rules of Prey we meet maverick detective Lucas Davenport in the first of a spine-tingling crime series. As a Minneapolis lieutenant he’s not afraid to do whatever it takes to get justice for the Twin Cities. When a ravenous murderer sends the area into panic, Davenport takes his blind determination to the next level (expect misconduct that will make your jaw drop). The high-suspense writing of American novelist John Sandford gives us a shocking, and often dark, look into the mind of a criminal catcher. If Davenport’s rule-breaking swagger had you reading with baited breath, rejoice! There are many mores novels in Sandford’s street-smart series.
Customer Reviews
Excellent thriller
The lead character, Lucas Davenport, is a sort of hybrid 007 /Jack Reacher hero.
The plot is interesting & flows quickly. All in all, I found it most enjoyable.
Unexpectedly Enthralling !
I had no knowledge of the writer or the series prior to reading this book. I can now say, I will lose countless nights sleep whilst reading all the ‘Prey’ collection.
I hope they are as good as this one!
Une solide noir americaine
Dark, well plotted and with a satisfactory resolution. The “game playing and writing” subplot could have been stronger lending a deeper moral counterpoint to this tale of psychotic mayhem.
