Course Description
Music is a form of universal communication. Even when people don’t understand each others’ languages, music has an amazing ability to convey a range of information about ourselves, from emotions and aspirations, to cultural identity. Music is unique. It can tell stories or set a scene. It can be a joy and a comfort. The therapeutic nature of music has long been recognised.
Using a mixture of video, audio and text, this learning pathway looks at how music is understood, from a classroom in Africa to a recording studio in Britain. It explores how technology has changed the way we buy and listen to music, while providing new forms of music therapy.
It opens up inspirational ways of teaching music to young people, both in and out of the classroom, and demonstrates how music can reach the unreachable as a useful communication tool and helpful teaching aid. This pathway demonstrates the way music can speak to all.
