Plot Summary
The hit of the 1999 Sundance Film Festival, American Movie is the hilarious and intense story of one man's obsession to make movies. You Need to see this film
I stumbled across this film on the itunes rentals, just because I wanted to try the new service and it was quite cheap... I just assumed it would be fairly average ob doc, for some reason.. It is an ob doc, but completely unique.. Made in a time when ( it sounds like im referring to a 100 years ago) documentaries were not marred by wannabe television presenters or fame hungry reality stars, this film really does what documentary says on the tin.. and exceeds all the pre requisites... fantastic characters (literally the producer/directors must have thought they had struck gold), a great and unusual story, incredible access into all aspects and very very funny.. Its the sort of film everyone wishes they had made.. I could go on... just watch it An absolute gem that should not be missed.
Waking up from the American dream
This is an incredibly powerful documentary. It follows an ambitious wannabe film maker, relying on his friends and family to help him along the way. They don't. To make his film, he has to overcome, not only the passive resistance and indifference of those around him, but the shortcomings that he has acquired, growing up in that environment. Unmissable and affirming.
With passion comes a great movie
This is a must watch for anyone considering making their own movies. It is a raw and moving picture with a light heart. Durring watching this you will regain that passion for movies that you once had and it is through the dedication that the main actor/person has in this film. He lives to make movies and yet we laugh at his misshapps though the process but at the end of it all. He is happy and is doing what he loves. Great to watch at such a good price! Thanks Itunes for letting me see this. Otherwise its a £15 region 1 import!
