Plot Summary

Countdown to Zero traces the history of the atomic bomb from its origins to the present state of global affairs: nine nations possessing nuclear weapons capabilities with others racing to join them, with the world held in a delicate balance that could be shattered by an act of terrorism, failed diplomacy, or a simple accident. Written and directed by Academy Award® nominated documentarian Lucy Walker (Waste Land, The Devils Playground, Blindsight), the film makes a compelling case for worldwide nuclear disarmament and features an array of important international statesmen, including Jimmy Carter, Mikhail Gorbachev, Pervez Musharraf and Tony Blair.

...Like An Atomic BOMB!

Smart, clear, makes you think

Like most of my generation (circa 80s and 90s) I've not given much thought to immenent nuclear disaster. To those who didn't live through them the sixties were about free love, the pill, rock'n roll blah blah - the stuff that has impacted our lives. My history comes from 20th century school books that spent time talking about 'mutually assured desctruction' as a prevent strategy for war, rather than the fact that an often mocked, often toasted Russian leader saved the world from that destruction on one of several occasions when it nearly came about by accident.

This documentary was clear, concise, credible, brilliantly-argued (though it is one-sided) and I can't stop thinking about it. I think that makes it pretty great.

Superb

Having been conscious of the nuclear arsenals that the world has, I was left both amazed and horrified and the level of weapons that are in the world at this moment.

This film is extremely well written, informative without being sensationalist, maybe a little one sided but that can't be helped but ultimately a damn good documentary that if everyone in the world watched, might just finally lead to unilateral disarmament. It was interesting to see the creator of the Hiroshima bomb, crying in interviews after he realised exactly what he had given to the world
