Plot Summary

Jonathan Rhys Meyers plays James Reece, a low-level operative for the CIA in Paris, eager to see some real action. When he's offered his first senior-level assignment, he can't believe his good fortune -- until he meets his new partner, special agent Charlie Wax (John Travolta). A trigger-happy, wisecracking loose cannon who's been sent to Paris to stop a terrorist attack, Wax leads James on a white-knuckle shooting spree through the Parisian underworld that soon has James praying for his desk job. But when James discovers that he's also a target, he realizes there's no turning back -- and that Wax himself might be his only hope for staying alive. Pierre Morel, the director of Taken, keeps the film in high gear based on a story by French action-master Luc Besson (La Femme Nikita, Taxi, The Transporter).

Customer Reviews

A film of two halves

Unlike Taken from the same director, From Paris with Love is a buddy movie and because of this there's a lot more reliance on dialogue rather than just shooting and car chases. The dialogue bits are squirm-worthy and embarrassing, except for Travolta who carries the whole affair, Rhys Meyers lack of talent is sharply displayed in every scene he's in. So nil point for the dialogue. Fortunately we don't watch these films for a nice chat, and when John whips out his large assortment of firearms and shoots everyone in the building we all breath a collective sigh of relief. If you like meaty firefights and chunky (Travolta) action a la Seagal (but with a budget) you'll love bits of this movie. It needs all the touchy-feely stuff and chats edited. Without all the Rhys Meyers nonsense (that accent.. that bum-bluff goatee.. oh dear) this movie would have been a 5 out 5 gunfest, however it does include all of the above and hence it's a 3 out of 5 seriously-handicapped gunfest.

SCREEEECH

Allow me to sum up...watching the film was like listening to nails scrape along a black board for 2 hours...
