Plot Summary

"From The Ashes" is the incredible story of English cricket's greatest ever comeback. It's the summer of 1981 and in the midst of a heated Ashes battle, iconic all-rounder Ian Botham is sacked as England Captain with England 1-0 after two tests. Having been told by selectors that if he hadn't resigned, he would have been sacked anyway, not only is his career on a tightrope but English cricket is on the verge of total humiliation.

A tremendous record of a glorious summer of cricket

This is a terrific film; a great social record of England's tumultuous summer of 1981, and of course, a fantastic Ashes victory.

It has fascinating insights from Vic Marks, CMJ, Gower, Brearley, Kim Hughes, Rod Marsh, Mike Selvey, Bob Willis and I.T. Botham, interspersed with thrilling archive footage. A must for all cricket fans.

From The Ashes

The film "From the Ashes" is a brand new feature documentary, that has just been released in UK cinemas and been called "Gripping... as remarkable as the Damned United" by The Observer's Philip French. This is a brilliant exploration of Botham, his mindset and the issues within the Australian dressing room. With fantastic match action from five of the test's of this series, and unseen photographs this is a unique document and certainly not an old film revisited. Set over the six weeks that cover the end of Botham's captaincy and his re-emergence as a national hero - this film, which is more like a feature film than a conventional documentary, takes in riots and Royal Weddings on in its exploration of sport and national mood. Set to an original score by Chaz Jankel (Ian Dury and The Blockheads), with music by The Specials, The Clash and Squeeze, this is a film for cricket and non-cricket fans alike.

England's greatest cricket movie!

I watched this on the big screen live with the Q&A with Botham, Willis and Gower - fascinating film - showed the amazing turn around by the England cricket team and just how brilliant Botham was in that series once relieved of the captaincy. Fascinating insight into the struggles Kim Hughes had with the rest of the Aussie team too - loved it!
