Plot Summary

Based on Puccini's classic opera La Boheme, Jonathan Larson's revolutionary rock opera Rent tells the story of a group of bohemians struggling to live and pay their rent in the gritty background of New York's East Village. "Measuring their lives in love," these starving artists strive for success and acceptance while enduring the obstacles of poverty, illness and the AIDS epidemic. One of the longest running shows on Broadway, Rent was the winner of the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the Obie Award, the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, four Tony Awards and three Drama Desk awards.

Customer Reviews

The most inspirational film you will ever see.

And that really is what this film is. It's a gorgeous and heartbeaking film about a group of Bohemians, living in America during the AIDS epidemic. I first watched this film at 11pm, and managed to get to bed, tears streaming down my face at around 2am. But it is such a brilliant film, and all the actors just make this film amazing. It doesn't matter that it's a musical, because that just makes it all the stronger. There are some brilliant performances in this; from La Vie Bohem to I'll Cover You to Over the Moon, you'll find something that really touches your heart. I love it, and for £6.99, this is amazing.

So touching!

This is only just the second best musical ever! It could be first if I didn't like Wicked. I really like the songs and the energy everyone has! It's great. Buy this and you won't regret it.

Best film ever

The best film I have ever seen, and the only film I can watch over and over again. Isn't as well known as it should be, but everyone that knows it loves it!
