The Invasion - "Out of this World!"

An emotional thrill-ride; Now one of my favourite films, i rate this 5-Star. It perfectly encapsulates the feeling of desperation and isolation - starting with the paranoia of having the impression that something is wrong, to the knowledge that the only way to survive is to conceal your emotions in a world that no longer has any and the one rule "Don't Go To Sleep!". Sadly it's an unheard of film despite the gripping plot and incredible cast, but none-the-less it is well-worth your money. Will leave you unnerved and keep you checking well into the next day. Brilliant!

the film that lost its way

I had to stop watching this about two thirds into the movie. The story has been done before as Invason of the body snatchers. The problem with this movie is the makers have taken a great story and made a complete mess of it. I liked the acting but the excellent cast cannot save what is a disaster of a movie. I can't figure out how the director went so wrong with such a brilliant premise. Watch the ultra creepy version with Donald Sutherland to see how it should be done. The one star I have given this is after careful consideration, I really do think its that bad. Also bear in mind that the studio made the decision not to preview this to critics before release, there is usually a good reason for that.

You're next!

Far from the disaster it has been painted, "The Invasion" proves that suspense can still be leveraged from the bodysnatcher concept after the 1956 original and the following two remakes. You can expect a second half that devolves somewhat into generic chase scenes, and Kidman's lead character is thinly drawn, but this is definitely worth a look.
