Plot Summary

Back in the late '80s, Randy "The Ram" Robinson (Mickey Rourke) was a headlining professional wrestler. Now, twenty years later, he ekes out a living performing for handfuls of die-hard wrestling fans in high school gyms and community centers around New Jersey. Estranged from his daughter (Evan Rachel Wood) and unable to sustain any real relationships, Randy lives for the thrill of the show and the adoration of his fans. However, a heart attack forces him into retirement. As his sense of identity starts to slip away, he begins to evaluate the state of his life -- trying to reconnect with his daughter, and strikes up a blossoming romance with an aging stripper (Marisa Tomei). Yet all this cannot compare to the allure of the ring and passion for his art, which threatens to pull Randy "The Ram" back into his world of wrestling.

4 in a row

Darren Aronofsky is, in my opinion one of the best of the current generation of american film makers. This is his 4th film and is quite a departure from the previous three check them out if you haven't already (pi, Requiem for a dream and The fountain, sometimes refered to as the mind, body and soul trilogy) you'll have to venture out though i-tunes don't have them. This film cost 5 million dollars to make and is considered low budget, his first film - pi was made for only $60,000 - extraordinary achievements.Superb performances from all three leads (Rourke, Tomei, Wood) and another mind-blowing soundtrack from Clint Mansell.

Worth watching...

i wouldn't exactly say it's worth 10.99, but its one of those dramas you just have to watch

The Wrestler

I thought this was a great film. It was filmed in a very real way as if we were following the character (Ram) through his life. The handheld nature of this filming brings you closer to the character. The story was interesting and kept your attention and the acting was superb. Ram (Mickey Rourke) did on occasion sound a bit like a famous boxer of 6 movies which made me laugh but he played this character brilliantly.
