Plot Summary

Brad Pitt picks up a sword and brings a muscular, brooding presence to the role of Greek warrior Achilles in this spectacular retelling of The Iliad. Orlando Bloom and Diane Kruger play the legendary lovers who plunge the world into war, Eric Bana portrays the prince who dares to confront Achilles, and Peter O'Toole rules Troy as King Priam. Director Wolfgang Petersen recreates a long-ago world of bireme warships, clashing armies, the massive fortress city and the towering Trojan Horse.

accurate? who's to say?

quite enjoyed this actually. cinemaphotography is lovely, costumes etc would appear to be as you'd expect. lets remember though, as far as accuracy is concerned, the story is based on the iliad, a poem, written around 1000yrs BC based on events set around 200yrs before that. as the story has been retold over the generations it has assimilated various themes thoughtout the ages and should not really be taken as a historical account. overall i think the casting is superb. Peter O'Toole is perfect as Priam and Brian Cox's Agamemnon is excellent, even Pitt surpasses himself as the moody Achilles, reckoned to be the immortal son of Hera and Peleus. well worth a look in my opinion, it is basically a Hollywood version of the epic and worth the few quid it is on sale for.

An enjoyable romp but.....

Perhaps this is best enjoyed for people who think Homer is a yellow fat man. Poor Menaleus, why was his name so badly pronounced, wasn't he in the Odyssey, how come he died? Didn't Paris perish and Helen go back to like with her husband? I know the researchers had pictures of the proper armour, so what happened, did warriours really go into battle in soft leather armour with their bellies exposed...no I think not? Did Agamamnon not make it back to Mycenae? How I wish one day we could get an accurate telling of the Iliad. Apart from the above, I did enjoy it!

Entertaining

Ok its not a historically accurate documemtary - but it is entertaining. Its good to see.
