Jared Leto has disproved the general rule that bands featuring successful Hollywood-istas are little more than misguided "yeah-whatever" indulgences — the Fight Club and Requiem for a Dream actor formed 30 Seconds to Mars with his older brother Shannon (drummer) in 1998, and has seen his star in the music world rise steadily under a gathering tide of post-grunge, screamo and hard rock. After highlighting 2002's self-titled debut with long-burners like "Oblivion", the band engineered its breakthrough with A Beautiful Lie (2005) — a powerful firestorm crammed with heartfelt amp-scorchers, notably "Attack" and "The Kill" — before delivering progressive third album This Is War in 2009: in a savvy marketing move fans were asked to send in their ideas for cover artwork while, musically, the release edges confidently towards the epic. Check out "Kings and Queens" and "Hurricane".

Wait!! Don't waste your money on this...
...it's not good value for money!!
For only 12p more you can buy ALL THREE 30STM albums right here on itunes! You could get 35 songs for the price of these 15! Don't get ripped off!
Anyway, 30 Seconds to Mars are so brilliant you'll end up buying the albums in the end. So you may as well get them to start off with, and save yourself some cash!!
Ok....
This "Essential" is a very good introduction to 30 seconds to mars [for anyone new to them], with some of my favorite tracks such as From Yesterday, and Kings and Queens. It is a shame that some of the better songs such as R-evolve have been replaced by a bad cover of Message in a Bottle, and that good songs in general have been left off. Fans may want to buy whole albums, rather than just a selection.
Missing some crucial stuff
Yeah its got all the famous songs but as Aiedail says, where are the songs that the mainstream haven't heard? Modern Myth and R-Evolve are awesome songs and also from the first album Edge of the Earth. I'd say its worth getting all the albums anyway!
