Comedy Songs

If music be the food of love, and comedy is the sauce, prepare yourselves for a feast of sound and laughter as we deliver some of the most chucklesome tunes in the history of recorded nonsense. Monty Python's Eric Idle leads the way with "Always Look On the Bright Side of Life", and for metal fans there's Spinal Tap's "Stonehenge".

Several of our comic tunes rest on the lunacy of the performance, but others have a foundation of solid musicianship: they would blow you away whether or not they had a funny lyric attached. Neil Sedaka's "I Go Ape" is quality, piano-on-fire rock 'n' roll, and there's no mistaking the class of Louis Armstrong's "Jeepers Creepers".

Sure, we've got universal laughs a-plenty here, but dig a little deeper and you'll find some twisted regional gems, like Jim Springer's utterly Australian "Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport" and the Wurzels' West Country ditty "The Combine Harvester (Brand New Key)". Where Mrs. Miller is coming from on "Yellow Submarine" is anybody's guess.

There's no proven formula for a great comedy song: sometimes all you need is a pair of comedians singing a happy tune (click on Morecambe & Wise, Laurel & Hardy, Crosby & Hope); a well crafted comedy lyric may do the trick (try Adam Sandler's "The Chanukah Song"); or you might prefer the brilliant silliness of "The Ying Tong Song" by the Goons.
