- 1. "Thank Christ for the Bomb" by The Groundhogs: "In these times of global military strife nothing is as necessary as a great anti-war song . . . but seeing as no one has written one in some time: let's just stick with this under-appreciated British classic. Peace through mutually assured destruction."
- 2. "Room-Silencing Religious Call" by Earles and Jensen: "In this post-'America's love affair with the Jerky Boys' (can you believe they gave these guys a movie?) world, I know it is hard to imagine being able to laugh at a crank call ever again but I assure you you will laugh at this. This is is one of the only things the whole band will agree to listen to in the van."
- 3. "When You Find Out" by The Nerves: "This is one of the ultimate treasures of underground American rock 'n' roll. Only self-releasing one four song 7" during their brief career, they are the greatest power-pop band of new wave."
- 4. "Disco 2000" by Pulp: "Maybe the saddest pop song ever. A song of love and loss on an epic scale, written by the greatest English lyricist since Morrissey."
- 5. "Amerika First" by The Gizmos: "Bands like the Gizmos are the best argument that punk was the invention of the urbanists in New York and London. This satire is proof positive that punk was born in the mid-seventies in the middle of America."
- 6. "My President" by Young Jeezy & Nas: "It was the moment the world watched and hoped for and this is the anthem for that moment. This is my feel-good song of the year."
- 7. "Son of Sam" by Chain Gang: "The greatest thing about the DIY punk explosion of the the late '70s and early '80s is just how many amazing songs came out of it. This is a song that we have recently started to cover and my only hope is that we have an ounce of the power of the original."
- 8. "The Prodigal Son Brings Death" by Mind Eraser: "This Boston band is brutality personified. Hardcore, death metal, power-violence, sludge, etc. all find a home in Mind Eraser's music. Not a great make-out record."
- 9. "River Guard" by Smog: "Bill Callahan is an American treasure. A phenomenal storyteller who manages to create mini-films out of songs. I can't figure out though if this song is sad or uplifting or both."
- 10. "We're Dust / The Violator" by Iron Age: "While not as good as their godly newer material, this songs hints at the greatness that was to come. A perfect balance of psych and hardcore that simultaneously makes me want to mosh and meditate."
- 11. "Cold Night for Alligators" by Roky Erickson: "When push comes to shove, Roky is my favourite performer of all time. An icon in the '60s who went on to become one of the most famous rock casualties all time. This song is off one of his post-breakdown records and just oozes all that makes him great."
- 12. "Schizophrenia" by Sonic Youth: "Sonic Youth is the band that really got me into music. I listened to all of their records constantly but this is the first song that has stuck with me the most. The way the pounding drums mix with the frail guitar in the beginning of the song still gives me shivers."
