Electronic experimentalists Metronomy, formed in Devon by lynchpin member Joseph Mount just before the turn of the century, arrived in 2006 with a situationist's sense of mischief and groove, sporting large lightbulbs on their shirts and coordinating their onstage movements with low-rent, tongue-in-cheek robotic glee. Early single "You Could Easily Have Me" expertly blended complex intertwining melodies with a certain naive charm, and paved the way for debut album Pip Paine (Pay the £5000 You Owe) which also delivered catchy lo-fi basement rocker "In the D.O.D.". Nights Out (2008) proved the band's breakthrough, boasting standouts "Heartbreaker" and the extra-funky "Holiday", and 2011's The English Riviera continued the move towards accessibility, and introduced a fresh line-up, with the deliciously sweet "Everything Goes My Way" and hooky single, "The Look".
