And lo!, the overlords of the great summer festival circuit did gather around a large table, made entirely of discarded guitar picks and tent pegs, and it was decided that Scotland's supermassive T in the Park festival would fall upon the same stellar July weekend also reserved for Ireland's Oxegen . . . which basically means that the two events share the same headliners, and for 2011 the Kinross venue delivers Coldplay, here rehearsing their tale of kingly demise "Viva La Vida", Foo Fighters, scraping skies with "Best of You", and the eminent Beyoncé, picking up a head of steam for the distaff team with "Run the World (Girls)" — does it get any bigger, or better, than this?

Time to blow your mind, Kinross-style, as we fill our T in the Park 2011 Next Steps with groundbreaking sounds — the Streets may have called time on the studio, but Mike Skinner and his mates have followed final album Computers and Blues with a solid gigging schedule, and here we revisit a standout moment from 2006's The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living. OFWGKTA splinter artist, Tyler, the Creator, takes rap to a dark, fascinating place with "Yonkers" from his second studio album Goblin (2011), while Crystal Castles straddle the organic/digital divide on a bridge woven from purest groove: "Untrust Us".

Our T in the Park Deep Cuts selection for 2011 is a tantalising mixed bag, stuffed with treats old and new, where the pioneers or yesterday rub shoulders with today's hot-button artists — Big Country offers a blast from their epic '80s past with the timeless amp-stack-shaker, "In a Big Country", while Ocean Colour Scene kicks in with Britpop classic "The Day We Caught the Train" alongside Cast (lead by original La's bassist John Power), whose "Finetime" was one of many excellent tracks on 1995 debut All Change. Meanwhile, Jenny and Johnny jet in from the States with "Big Wave".

T in the Park is truly massive in 2011 — 180 artists over 11 stages during three days at Balado in Kinross . . . that's a hell of a lot to take in, so we've made it easy for you with this choice selection of tracks from many of the acts scheduled to perform. Fancy reliving the glory days of Britpop? We've got Pulp alongside Primal Scream.
