    • 1. "Every Breath You Take" by The Police: "An unrelenting circular guitar line and an underplayed drum part are the ideal accompaniment to Sting's tale of lost love and yearning becoming a darker obsession which instantly strikes a nerve. I love the nagging piano notes in the middle eight."
    • 2. "Where the Streets Have No Name" by U2: "The version that opens the album begins with a grandiose organ intro, which just screams widescreen. The soundscape that Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois evoke on this track is epic in proportion and you really feel like you have arrived in that desert. The guitar soaked in delay that swells into a crescendo is one of my all-time favourite guitar parts."
    • 4. "The Scientist" by Coldplay: "I think everybody has a song that reminds them of one particular lost love and this one never fails to tug on the heart strings. A beautiful, understated record that can ignite my memories like they were only yesterday."
    • 5. "My Big Mouth" by Oasis: "This track is great because of the sheer wall of sound that assaults you from the off. It always reminds me of that great summer when Oasis were still a force to be reckoned with. Probably the only great track off the album. Enough said."
    • 6. "Live to Tell" by Madonna: "I love this track firstly because of the space and the atmosphere that is created by the three dramatic piano octaves and secondly because, not unlike Michael Jackson, she did once produce first rate pop. Her vocal was always highly distinctive in this period and she sounds like she is singing through her tears throughout. Emotional."
    • 7. "Sex On Fire" by Kings of Leon: "As with most of my favourite tracks they usually remind me of experiences in my life, be they good or bad. This reminds me of a long car drive in glorious sunshine, sea views, and - most notedly - role playing the title of the song with a rather attractive young lady."
    • 8. "Superstar" by Carpenters: "Karen Carpenter's vocal on this song is so haunting, whilst still effortlessly calming. The story that unfolds of a fan who is smitten with a pop idol is one that we can all probably relate to."
    • 9. "Ordinary World" by Duran Duran: "A light acoustic sound isn't usually Duran Duran's thing but it works extremely well on this track. I love the way the song has so many twists and turns before you reach the elevated chorus that begs you to sing along."
    • 10. "Love Is Noise" by The Verve: "I love the production on this track and there is so much going on with guitarist Nick McCabe's contemporary psychedelia making a welcome return alongside Ashcroft's raw, unaffected vocal. Awesome stuff."
    • 11. "Man In the Mirror" by Michael Jackson: "It was hard to pick one song from Bad. It was the first album I ever owned and I loved all the tracks on it. I just like the optimism that's conveyed even if it does sound a little trite now in light of his recent activity."
    • 12. "Perfect Symmetry" by Keane: "I took up the keys when I joined Red Light Company and Keane have always been a good reference point for me. I'm a huge fan of Tim Rice Oxley's playing and the intricate parts he comes up with. The melodic piano line on this track is a fine example of that in action."
    • 13. "It Must Be Love (2006 Remaster)" by Labi Siffre: "Whether you like them or hate them, Madness were always entertaining and inventive with their sound. This track was one of their biggest hits to not be self penned. I just love the use of the piano and also I suppose it's the Camden connection, as they played there a lot."
