- 1. "Little Italy" by Stephen Bishop: "Stephen Bishop is one of my favourite songwriters. He wrote the theme from Tootsie. His melodies are so unusual. There is so much atmosphere in the music and the storytelling."
- 2. "Wedding Bell Blues" by The 5th Dimension: "I have danced on the table to this many times. Fantastic group covering my favourite Laura Nyro song."
- 3. "Someday We'll All Be Free" by Donny Hathaway: "This is so beautiful. I am only just really discovering how great Donny Hathaway was, as a performer as well as an arranger and producer."
- 4. "No Easy Way Down" by Barbra Streisand: "I cried to this sitting on a plane, after I had got swept up in yet another imaginary romance and was looking at another broken heart. This song was made for me at that moment. The lyrics, by Gerry Goffin, are especially amazing."
- 5. "Lived In Bars" by Cat Power: "I don’t go for much modern music, unless it’s people on the underground scene, but Chan Marshall from Cat Power has real authenticity and conveys real emotion. I don’t really understand her lyrics, but I don’t mind. Her voice has so much depth and beauty."
- 6. "You've Really Got a Hold on Me" by LaBelle & Laura Nyro: "This is from my favourite Laura Nyro album, which she performed around one microphone with Labelle. Their takes on some classic songs are the best. It’s so raw, and you can hear everything in the room."
- 7. "Happy" by Carpenters: "I love all Carpenters songs unconditionally, including “Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft”. I just pick one to suit my mood! Right now I love the good vibes on this one."
- 8. "Do What You Gotta Do" by Roberta Flack: "So many people have covered this song, but she takes it to a new level completely. A master class in interpretation. Roberta put her soul into telling the story, which she makes her own."
- 9. "Be Thankful for What You Got" by William DeVaughan: "I love songs that are like rambling meditations, and this is one of them. I love the congas, vibes and wah-wah combination; there is just something spiritual about it."
- 10. "Morning Morning" by Richie Havens: "This song has a way of making you feel happy and secure. I love the combination of Richie’s very experienced, gnarly vocal and the twinkling xylophone."
- 11. "Lopin' Along Thru the Cosmos (Remastered)" by Judee Sill: "Judee Sill is one of my favourite songwriters. She died in obscurity, but she left behind a legacy of beautiful music. Psychedelic hymns with soaring melodies and soul-searching poetic lyrics that are visual, like Joni on Hejiera."
- 12. "You Turn Me On I'm a Radio" by Joni Mitchell: "As with the Carpenters, I love all Joni Mitchell songs up to the ’80s. I can pick one to suit my mood. I love the harmonies in this one. Joni is not taking herself too seriously and is having fun in this song."
- 13. "Step Out" by The Mamas & The Papas: "I love Mama Cass Elliot’s voice, but I love Denny Doherty as well. This is a very plaintive song that has Denny’s mournful tenor voice all over it."
