New York's Scissor Sisters doused the U.K. — which the band now regards as its spiritual home — in a glittering spume of burlesque disco and camp rock from the moment their cover of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" broke through as one of the catchiest singles of 2004 . . . not bad for a track that had been relegated to the b-side of debut single "Electrobix". Sung in a Bee Gees-like falsetto by frontman Jake Shears, the tune paved the way for their biggest global hit to date, 2006's "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'", which is especially popular in Peru, apparently. Elton John is a big fan, and his influence is evident in the band's stylish flamboyance, as well as the tone and delivery of piano-driven tracks like "Take Your Mama" and "Mary". They might hail from the States, but this lot is as British as panto.
