    • 1. "Wednesday's Child (From the Picture 'The Quiller Memorandum')" by John Barry: "Much to the annoyance of my friends, if I hear this I find myself humming it all day. But it keeps my spirits up. Make sure you get the John Barry original version."
    • 2. "There's No Other Way" by blur: "Graham Coxon is one of the most musical and creative guitarists in the history of guitarists. Damon is a supreme songwriter and creator of harmonies. I love this band. And this exuberant song, especially the bit where the guitar and bass riff together after each chorus."
    • 3. "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell: "This is the track where one tends to sing the riff as well as the words (if you're in a singing-along mood)."
    • 4. "Sunshine Superman" by Donovan: "Guitars and bongos - yeah! With every decade we hear fewer and fewer bongo moments."
    • 5. "A quoi ça sert ?" by Françoise Hardy: "The always beautiful Francoise Hardy. The title means 'What's the point…?', 'What's the use…?' Something like that. Anyway, if I hear it, I have to sing the melody (and I am no singer). They can play this one when they scatter my ashes!"
    • 6. "Piece of Me" by Britney Spears: "In my view, a classic album. Go Britney! This track has everything."
    • 7. "Mrs. Robinson" by Simon & Garfunkel: "When I was 11 or 12 years old I saved up all my pocket money to buy the album 'Bookends from which this track comes. It was worth it. I listened to every nuance on the record over and over again but only understood the lyrics a few years later."
    • 8. "The Last High" by The Dandy Warhols: "My favourite band. This song always uplifts me. And the synth solo! If I ever move to a new house, I feel that I'm not properly living there till I've played this whole album at least once at a decent volume."
    • 9. "Heroes" by David Bowie: "An epic and truly great masterpiece. Two lovers separated by the Berlin Wall. It's hard not to be moved by Bowie's passion as the song progresses. The music even sounds like a resolute wall. The story of David Bowie's recording sessions in Berlin is very interesting."
    • 10. "Golden Brown" by The Stranglers: "When I first heard this it was different musically to everything I was familiar with. I was intrigued by its odd bar counts and imagery of golden summer days. But like so many songs, it's really about drugs."
    • 11. "Don't Fight It, Feel It" by Primal Scream: "My sentiments exactly. The album Screamadelica is a classic of production. I have found myself whistling the whistlly bit in this song without remembering where it came from many times."
    • 12. "Dirty Old Town" by The Pogues: "This version by the Pogues reminds me of the Kensal area of London where I lived in the late Seventies. Actually it was written by Ewan MacColl about Salford, Manchester. But it's a universal song and could be about anyone's town."
    • 13. "All Tomorrow's Parties" by The Velvet Underground & Nico: "The song starts off with Maureen Tucker's drums, then the rest of the band on the left hand side. You think that the headphone is loose in your iPod. Then Nico starts singing. Lou Reed wrote this song about Andy Warhol for Nico to sing."
