Podcast Description
High up on the roof of London's Queen Elizabeth Hall, a riverboat appears to have come to rest... This is A Room for London, a one-bedroom installation whose design echoes the paddle steamer captained by Joseph Conrad in 1890 from the Thames to the river Congo – a journey that gave rise to his great novel Heart of Darkness. Each month the Room plays host to a different writer, invited to use the location to write and record a new piece. April's writer was Caryl Phillips. A Room for London was commissioned by Living Architecture and Artangel, and designed by David Kohn Architects in collaboration with Fiona Banner. www.aroomforlondon.co.uk
