Changing Beliefs | You may believe that a belief is a ‘fact’, but a belief is simply a statement you’ve been telling yourself over and over again…until you are strongly identified with and attached to that belief. Perhaps you are unsure that beliefs can be changed? Let me put it this way, do you still believe in Father Christmas? Do you still believe your parents can do no wrong? Do you still believe that Steve or Claire of 3B is just the most fanciable creature in the world? That Duran Duran are the answer to all world problems? No? Then at least SOME of your beliefs have changed with time. Homework: Take one of the unhelpful beliefs you identified in “Money is…” What is a better belief? And a better belief than that? And the best belief you can believe today? Repeat every time a “bad” belief comes into your conscious mind. Or if you are very organised, do it on a certain belief for 30 days, and see what happens to your belief. | 28 5 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Afford Vs Choose | If there was one word in the English language I wish I’d never heard, ‘afford’ would be it. How does it make you feel to say ‘I can’t afford’? I read somewhere that I needed to strike the word ‘afford’ from my vocabulary and instead CHOOSE how I spent my money. That’s actually what we all do – we make choices based on what we need or want the most. Ok, sometimes it doesn’t feel like much of a choice…roof over my head or night out? Hmm… But ultimately it IS a choice. By taking back your power to choose, you put yourself back in control of your finances, rather than your finances controlling you. Homework Pick something you want to achieve in your financial life. It could be paying down a debt, or saving for something specific. Whenever you spend any money for the next week on anything you don’t need to live, make sure you consciously choose where your money will go – from the 50p for a newspaper to the £200 for a new gadget. Will it go to your debt/savings or will it go to the newspaper or gadget? | 21 5 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Monkey Mind | Buddhists call the incessant mind chatter (your thoughts) ‘Monkey Mind’. You know those thoughts that constantly jabber jabber jabber away at the back of your mind? That is Monkey Mind. There are all sorts of ways to quiet Monkey Mind – meditation, exercise, lobotomy (also know as television) but for now we are actually going to invite Monkey Mind to talk. Even more radical, we are going to listen. £ Set off Monkey Mind – think of something you are worried about and write down the thoughts that come flinging out. Stop when Monkey Mind starts to repeat itself. Really let Monkey Mind go to town – all those yadda yadda yadda thoughts that keep you awake at night and set you off worrying. Let them all out (there is no need to react to them; just let them have their say) | 14 5 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Money is… | What are your beliefs about money? Some of your beliefs about money are not conducive to having a happy money life. Your beliefs shape how you see the world, and therefore how you behave, and the results you get. Homework: Take a sheet of paper and write “MONEY” in the middle, and then all your thoughts, ideas, associations around it about money. Stuck? Try completing the following sentences a few times: Money is… Rich people are… I cannot be wealthy because… The difference between me and wealthy people is… I wouldn’t want to be rich because… Then for each belief, ask yourself: Where did this come from? Do I really believe this? Is this really true? For everybody? What if it wasn’t true? How does this get in the way of the financial life I want? What would I gain if I lost this belief? What would I lose if I lost this belief? For more tips and ideas to help you Banish Money Misery, come to http://www.banishmoneymisery.co | 2 5 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

How’s Your Integrity? | How is your financial integrity? Do you owe money? Do you cheat? Steal? Perhaps not in a ‘Great Train Robbery’ way, but financial integrity runs through your whole life, so even pinching a bic biro from work counts here. I am not the police, and I don’t care if you steal the entire stationary cupboard, or I wouldn’t, except that I know that being out of integrity hurts your financial health. Homework: Make a list of where you feel out of integrity in your financial life. Then pick one thing off the list and get back into integrity in whatever way feels right. Have fun with it! Playing With Money | Right, let’s get one thing straight right now. Money is fun. Or can be. We’ve all grown up with the bizarre idea that money is a sensible, serious subject, turning many of us off it altogether. But money is just energy…and we can play with it, make it interesting and fun. (And by curious coincidence, as soon as we start doing that, we invite more money into our lives…and more money is attracted to us). Once we break the attachments, and start treating money more light-heartedly, it can become fun. Homework: Play games involving money - to read the list of ideas I mentioned in this podcast, go to http://www.banishmoneymisery.com/site/playing-with-money/ Referenced: The Cashflow Game by Robert Kiyosaki The Prosperity Game by Abraham Hick | 16 4 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Trusting Money | How much do you trust money to come to you when you need it? At one end of the scale is the person who worries endlessly and stresses every time money is needed, nose pressed to the window watching and waiting for money to arrive; and at the other is the person so laid back that they do not give it a second thought, knowing that somehow, some way the money they need will come. Where do you fit on this scale? The book swap site I mentioned on this podcast is http://www.bookmooch.com Homework Think of all the times that money has come in just in the nick of time, when you needed it most. Note down the different ways it came to you – loans, gifts, extra earnings, new jobs, pay rises, discounts, freebies, new ideas. Are you being unfair to money with the level of trust you have? Could you trust just a little more? Start keeping a note of all the ways that money (or generosity) comes in when you need it. Gather the evidence to prove to yourself that all your needs are taken care of. With Arms Wide Open | Last time we talked about welcoming money in – I hope you have been doing so every time you open your doors. It’s worth mentioning that it’s not just money that you can welcome. You can welcome your good in any way that it comes in. Money is just one part of wealth. Sometimes we don’t notice that we are better off financially, not because we have more pound notes in our purse, but because other circumstances work out for us. Sometimes we are just not very good at receiving, and it’s such a shame. Because you are deserving of every bit of good that comes your way – you are a wonderful, beautiful, magnificent being and I would hate to see you turn down any good thing that is given freely to you. Receiving is the other side of the coin to giving, and both sides can feel great. As long as people are giving freely and generously, allow them to do so with gratitude and grace. Homework: How comfortable are you with receiving? Throw your arms out wide and declare to the universe that you are willing to receive. (Go on, do it.) Resolve for this week to experiment with receiving graciously, whether it’s a compliment or a tip or a night out. Assume that the person giving to you is happy to do so, or they wouldn’t offer. Welcome Money | How welcome is money in your life? Do you throw open the doors and welcome money in? Picture it, money has come to your house with a big smile on its face – it has brought you some friends…more money. You look at them in dismay and say ‘is that all there is? I need more than that’. The big smile on money’s face fades, its bottom lip starts to quiver, and the money it brought with it looks askance and wanders away, muttering “That ungrateful wretch. I’m never going back to that house.” Homework: Get up right now, go to the door and fling it open, saying (loudly) “WELCOME MONEY. Money you and your friends are always welcome in my house.” Do this every time you open a door this week | 19 3 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Mirror, Mirror | Often, the behaviour we find most irritating in other people is a mirror for us – showing us either that we do that thing we are chuntering about them doing, or showing us a sensitivity we can look at and learn from. It’s worth just taking a peek though – to see why you are so irritated by certain behaviours and if they are a mirror for your own behaviour. Homework: Where in life is someone else’s financial behaviour irritating you? Take a look at yourself – is there somewhere that you are doing the same thing? Changing yourself is much easier, and more effective than changing someone else | 12 3 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

I Forgive You | Old resentments die hard. It is sometimes very difficult to let go of the feeling that someone did us wrong, or to forgive. Imagine that every resentment you have is a rock about the size of your fist, and you are carrying them round in a backpack. Big and little resentments are in there together, and after a few years of carrying them around, you’re kind of used to the weight…but boy, is that backpack heavy? Homework: Who do you need to forgive regarding money? Who are you holding resentments towards? Make a list. Include yourself. Include money itself. Now for each person write down ‘I forgive you for…’, and keep going until you have nothing left to forgive them for. Dear Money… | This exercise can be hugely powerful, profound…sometimes funny and always insightful! Doing this exercise was one of the key moments in my financial turnaround because it helped me to realise what was going on in my financial life. Up until I wrote this letter, I pretty much blamed money for everything that was wrong in our relationship. I took no responsibility at all for the state of my financial life. Homework: Write a letter to money: Include all the good things in your financial life, include all the bad things in your financial life, include how you would love things to be with money, include any questions you have for money…and then add what you think money might say to you – the good and the bad, how money would like things to be. Attached To Money | Do you tie your entire life, your happiness, your business success, your joy to how much money is in your bank account? It’s a miserable place to be – and is often out of all proportion, and is really unhelpful. Our attachment to money stops us from seeing how to get out of a situation, it pinches off our creativity and frightens us. Homework: At this moment in time, do you need more money? I don’t mean do you ‘want’ more money – I don’t know anyone who’d say no. But do you need it? Unless someone is holding a gun to your head in this moment (and if there is, you have bigger problems than money and I wish you luck), you are ok in this moment. Maybe you’ll need money in 10 minutes time, or in the morning, or in a week, but for now you’re ok. Just for this moment you can breathe and relax.
