| 1 | VideoBinarium 001: A Wall With One Side | This first episode in the Experimental Expansion series follows noise musician Lance Higdon, the man behind the Wall With One Side moniker. "Lance Higdon has been active in experimental music since 2003, when he began recording and performing under the name Wall With One Side. Originally a duo with bassist Jeff Price, Wall With One Side has been a solo venture since 2004. Trained as a classical percussionist and the drummer for several Houston bands, Wall With One Side serves as an outlet for his non-rhythmic, electronically-produced sound pieces. These can range from brief bursts of harsh feedback-based compositions, in the vein of Sissy Spacek or TEF, to long-form tonal drones, inspired by Fennesz and Pita. Wall With One Side has released one full-length CD-R, Original Desighn, and a double 3" CD-R release, Light Fixture Impact On Broken Collar Bone/Walsingham, both on Esotype records. | 29 9 09 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 2 | VideoBinarium 002: Circuit Bending | The second episode of Experimental Expansion: Binarium explores the world of circuit bending with artists Matthew Potter of Nectarine, and Chris O'malley.Nectarine Bio: "Nectarine is the solo project of Houston electronic musician Matthew Potter, also a member of the experimental collective together. We are Instruments. Built around computer generated beats and homemade circuit bent instruments, Nectarine's music is dense and complex, familiar and foreign. Glitchy beats collide with circuit bent toys and found sounds to create a pastiche of noise that has been called "paranoid", "chaotic" and "enticing" by listeners. You can download Nectarine’s latest EP, The Candy Coated Conspiracy, for free at http://www.nectarineband.com/listen.html" Chris O'malley Bio: "a man, a mission, a legend. Hopeful eyes burning bright against the gleam of a crystalline barrier of sound. battling against the monotony of wasted technology, this man extracts extravagant empowerment from a simple system, the overlooked medium of children's toys. Creating an arsenal of so many forgotten classics, he illuminates a spectrum of textures which overwhelm, excite, and entrance. Few people share such a pristine sense of child-like exploratory wonder, and even fewer of these explorers ever find the will to push aside conventional standards of beauty in hopes of redefining standards of excellence. From his early experiments with a discarded "Barbie" brand guitar, to the labor intensive process which was the creation of the "A.R.I.D. RX-17!!!", Chris has delved deeper into the transformational sciences of avante guard music than such greats as "American composer: Bret Crow", or the mysterious and reclusive "Apostrophe S". Many wonder where the drive for breaking ground and blowing minds may come from. To quote a friend of Mr. O'malley's, "Chris is a mad scientist. That's all there is to it. I've seen him, binging on LSD and cocaine, 3 or 4 days beyond the desire for sleep, wondering exactly what it is he seeks. Clumps of hair in his hands. Pupils dark, large and clear as he charts bends on any random scraps of paper within his reach, newspaper, envelopes, paper towels. I mean, F**k man, I've even seen him writing electronic schematics on a f*****g tampon wrapper!!!!" Holding true to the ideal of the final frontier; which is clearly an inner voyage for Chris, he boldly goes where most men fear to tread, and who can tell where the roads of freedom and fortitude shall lead? One thing is for certain, where this man goes, he shall conquer. " | 18 9 09 | Free | View In iTunes |
