Comics Radar 093 – Playing with My Battle Beast | Image from the excellent and no longer in production webcomic, Lil Formers. Of course, the first thing we talk about is Avengers and why John is now Matt's favorite hero. Â And when you have a movie that makes $200,000,000 dollars in it's opening weekend, the obvious thing to do is cancel the related cartoon right? That's the rumor. What is DC's Trinity War? FCBD gave us a hint. Will AVX be the beginning of the end for the Marvel (and the Ultimate?) Universe? Leave your thoughts in the comments. Then we dive into the May Previews. What's on your pull list? | 10 5 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Comics Radar 092 – Ooo Pudding… | I don't know why Matt has an irrational dislike of Felicia Day. She's the geek who became popular for being a geek. And Youtube likes her too. They gave her her own "Channel," Geek & Sundry. Cartoons are back with Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes & Ultimate Spider-man on Disney XD and DC Nation on Cartoon Network. And there's finally a good shot of the Avengers Aliens and they shot a new scene, after the premiere of the movie. Is this a good thing or signs of a last minute studio overreach? And, as always, Matt & John rip into the new previews to salivate at the new good stuff and rip on some other stuff. | 15 4 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Comics Radar 091 – Ye Olde Podcaste | Matt & John went to the South Florida Renaissance Festival this weekend. Not actually together, or even on the same day, but they went this weekend and had fun. Am I wrong that they've basically become the Medieval/Fantasy equivalent of a comic or anime con? (albeit with better food) By now, you've probably seen the UK Avengers Assemble trailer maybe even started playing the Avengers Alliance facebook game, but now it's time to dive into Previews and Prep your may orders. And have you read Order of the Stick? Did you know about Rich Burlew's Kickstarter Campaign? I think we just entered the era of the webcomics, kids. | 5 3 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitComics Radar 090 – Animality NOT Beastality | We had a better title for this episode, but I feel a certain social responsibility to use this space to tell you that the special type of combat finisher introduced in Mortal Kombat 3 was the Animality. Not Beastality. DO NOT GOOGLE THE LATTER PHRASE. On behalf of Comics Radar and the Comics Radar Podcast, I apologize and there will be no mercy on Matt's soul. Moving on: We talk about: Before Watchmen Prequels Irredeemable and Incorruptible soon coming to an end. New Spider-man costume for the End of Earth! New Ninja Turtle toys, now with extra toes. DC Sweeps January Top 10. Really? Aquaman? And as always we jump into the February Previews and comment on everything in the most stream of thought manner possible. | 6 2 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Comics Radar 089 – Dashing Hitler Moustache | Sorry, I thought I put this episode up already. I probably tried to blank it out, after Matt's story of messing with a crazy person. Or my new really cool, really important job is already burning my brain cells. - DC Cancellations & New Series. Yay, More Liefeld! - Green Arrow TV pilot. - AMC expands Walking Dead by 3 episodes. - Avengers VS X-Men line-up. January 2012 Previews. I would love to see if anyone actually cut out Mike Richardson's head and took photos with it. And Always we want to know what you are pulling this month. | 29 1 12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Comics Radar 086 – If we were produced by Marvel, we would be cancelled by now. | Every once in a while Matt and John get an opportunity to do a second episode in a month. Today, we talk about our Thanksgiving plans, Marvel's Titular Genocide, the new Green Lantern cartoon and a handful of other things. We'll be back with Previews next episode. Please give us a call on the voicemail line. Hope you enjoy our special Thanksgiving Turkey song. | 20 11 11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Comics Radar 085 – Moist Fury | Back with another Previews episode to go over November previews for books out in January. We kick off with a voicemail from Jelanie plugging his new website and asking if DC new 52 is making them more competitive for marvel, which they clearly are but we'll give it a few more months to see how everything shakes out. DC comics sold 50% of all comics in October. Great for them, but more and more I think sales numbers are becoming BS statistics. NYCC has past and we get a handful of announcements out of it: Storm is joining the Avengers and a few new TV projects were announced. And superheroes aren't the only genre TV expected next year. Bucky/Winter Soldier/Captain America faked his death in Fear Itself and will return with a new series in February. Apparently there are multiple Winter Soldiers. Will one be a clone, one a cyborg, and one a guy in suit? Matt has watched Batman Year One. (Amazon Link) and thought it was decent enough and read Hellboy: House of the Living Dead (Amazon Link) And if you're in the NY/NJ area, Dark Knight Rises is filming. You too could camp out to be an extra. Finally, Marvel is now canceling series before they even come out. So, hopefully all the books we talk about from this months Previews actually see publication. | 7 11 11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Comics Radar 084 – Purple Pew Pew | 1. Dan Didio introduces the first Retcon of the new DCU. 2. Cartoon Network to add more DC comics animation/claymation and give Alfred guns. 3. Catman was/is a bisexual. Not that there's anything wrong with that. 4. New Avengers Trailer, and other comics on screen. 5. Then we jump into the October previews. | 16 10 11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Comics Radar 083 – Boobies… Hell Nah. | Matt & John tried to do a live episode, but my rig's still not setup to handle live calls, so we go over the entirety of DC comics and the problems endemic in it. We also talk about the new Avengers promo shots from Entertainment Weekly. Mark Ruffalo preps to play the Leader. And Matt reviews Holy Terror. I would saw it's a spoiler filled review, but I don't think there's enough understood about the book to even spoil it. | 2 10 11 | Free | View In iTunes |

13 |
Comics Radar 082 – Rick Santorum | After listening to this episode, remember to Google "Santorum."Â It has nothing to do with 99% of the episode, but worth searching for... when you're not at work. I'm really sorry, it's another 2.5 hour episode. We got a couple emails. What do you think is the best starting point to get into Ultimate Comics? | 23 9 11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Comics Radar 081 – Let’s Kill Hitler | The August Episode. Ok, so we don't kill hitler, but we do talk about the good Doctor and all the other comic news since last episode. Comics Radar 059: December Previews | An ungodly long episode at an hour and 45 minutes. We cover Tiger Woods because everybody else does it. We're both excited about the Smallville TV movie, for the most part. DC takes another swing at their own Ultimate universe, with Earth One. Didn't we see this before? Will 'War of the Superman' live up to Blackest Night? Matt is enjoying Superman-Superman more than he enjoyed the actual Superman comics Is Superboy Prime worthy of redemption? Lots of Comic Film casting news. Â Hawkeye? Â Idris Elba is Heimdall African names are hard to pronounce Jeff Bridges said Iron Man had no script and talks about his new film project Stan Lee will be in Thor Matt Loved Uncanny X-men 517 Turtles Forever: Celebrating 25 years of Turtles. Then we dive into the November Previews, I'm buying way too much Blackest Night. Lots of other ideas in this LONG episode so give a listen. And listen until the end for my daughter being extra cute. | 14 12 09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Comics Radar 058 – November Previews | I wish I had a better excuse for why the site went dead silent for almost 2 months, but I really don't have one. I can justify Most of October, but November just kind of flushed itself before it even started. I had planned on doing NaPodPoMo here. But about four hours into November, I knew that wasn't going to happen. So, Matt is out of the hospital and I'm trying to pick up the pace on updates, but it's difficult. Anyways, this episode we talk about: We skipped October Previews for self sanity I have trouble remembering a lot of stuff Blackest Night (surprise, surprise) Why John won't read a Didio written book, no matter how good it is. Thor Casting and missed castings Dollhouse Cancelled. surprised? Frank Cho's New Hitman Monkey Walking Dead coming to AMC Matt loves Mario's Wii or something like that Then we jump into November Previews at about 40 minutes in and BS our way through the guide forgetting a bunch more stuff. Thanks for still being there, guys. Talk to you later. Theme Music: Speechless by Fire Underground | 2 12 09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Comics Radar 057 – Not Approved by the Comics Code Authority | Matt's not feeling well, so JC decided to take back the big chair for this week's podcast about Banned Book Week. Thanks to Mur Lafferty and "I Should Be Writing" for reminding me about it. Here's a longer List of Banned Books, though I don't believe that one truly definitive list exists. It'd be impossible as new books are contested every day. And while the Comics subsection of literature may not face as many threats of banning. It faced it's own issues through the Comics Code Authority. Here's the Complete 1954 guidelines just to see how far it really went in what could and could not be done. And go read "Judgment Day," one of the most talked about stories that was killed by the CCA. And I forgot to mention it in the show, but if you can afford it and want to help prevent any comic bannings, you may want to consider donating to the CBLDF. I'm sure they'd appreciate it, and so would I. Theme Music: Speechless by Fire Underground | 29 9 09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Comics Radar 52 – June Previews – Still time to get your order in! | by John Campbell Wow, been too long since Matt or I last posted on the site, but here's a fresh new episode to enjoy. Good News, no F-bombs this time around. First we review Transformers 2. We got to see a sneak preview Monday night, by now you've all seen it, but if not we give our almost spoiler free review. I want to change the score I gave it though. I had previously rated the first TF an 8, so I have to move TF2 down a couple points. I'd give it a 6, maybe a low 7 because while not great, it was enjoyable. News stories: Archaia studios sign with Henson to adapt Legend, Dark Crystal, Fragglerock, and more. Steve Rogers returns, kind of? Not really, in reprint heavy Cap 600. Reborn coming July 1. Sean McKeever's new Nomad series. Why? Why is Wildcat still alive? X-babies Return with Star Comics characters Spidey still married? Not an imaginary story! Not an alternate Reality! Ron Frenz gets lifetime achievement and it p**ses me off! Bryan Fuller leaves Heroes. Again. Then we dive into the June Previews. And I plan to talk about PORN! okay, probably not. and Matt loves Ghostbusters a little too much. Theme Music is: Superhuman Strife by Joey Carey. End Music is: Moo Moo Cow by Seamonkey, stolen without permission from The FuMP. | 26 6 09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Comics Radar 051 – May Previews?!? Blame the New Host | So, here it is, the first podcast of the new regime. Matt's taking over in the big chair; I'm focusing more on the tech and being the sidekick, which is really where I'm happy. - Dwayne McDuffie and Justice League of America. - Dragonball Evolution Sequel. - E3 wrap up. - Box Office Hits & Misses...so far. Then we Dive into the May Previews, since we missed it last month, tell you all the books that you should go and beg your local comic person to pull for you. Comics Radar 049 – Obligatory Watchmen Episode | After a futile battle between my secondary computer and talkshoe, we unfortunately had to give up on trying for a live episode in March. But Ben from the Dork In Your Eye podcast stayed up until 2 or 3 or 4 in the morning (I'm terrible at timezones) to talk with us. So, Ben joined Matt and I to talk about the Watchmen film. I kept it short, only 40 mins. Towards the end, I mention a horrible right wing screed by Debbie Schlussel. Here's the first couple sentences: If you take your kids to see "Watchmen," you're a moron. If you see it yourself, you're also probably a moron and a vapid, indecent human being. To be fair, I agree with the first sentence. It goes downhill from there. And the comic fan response? not much better, to be honest. New Theme Music: Superhuman Strife by Joey Carey Let me know what you think of it. Comics Radar 046 – Dan Vado | A few Days ago, I half jokingly talked about Diamond's Changes to the way they look at order numbers. I thought about it after the fact and realized I really didn't give it the weight it deserved. The changes to these order numbers WILL KILL comics publishers. Hopefully not your favorite one, but somebodies favorite one will be killed. To try and put a point on this, I decided to talk to some smaller publishers who may be effected by this. And with some luck, I hope to get a comment from Diamond Comics, as well. We'll find out tomorrow morning. But for today, we have Dan Vado, Publisher of SLG Publishing. Comics Radar Special – Playing For Keeps Preview | Hey guys, John here. I have almost no voice. So, there won't be a podcast this week, despite having 2 that are almost done. (almost is subjective to my attitude on any given day.) So, I'm taking the opportunity to let Mur Lafferty tell you about her new Podiobook, Playing for Keeps. She's been hinting at it for a long time on her two podcasts, Geek Fu Action Grip and I Should Be Writing. AND it's about superheroes, so I've been looking forward to it for while. Give a listen, then head over to the Playing for Keeps Website and subscribe, when it launches on November 1. Meanwhile, I'll be sipping warm tea with honey. Getting ready for next week. | 30 10 07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Comics Radar 033 – Comic Reviews | Just a set of reviews and a couple called in comments. The Vinyl Underground #1 Written by Si Spencer; Art by Simon Gane and Cameron Stewart; Cover by Sean Phillips In this fast-paced, ultra-cool ongoing crime-noir series, an unlikely quartet of occult detectives secretly solve crimes â from DJ crack bars in Camden to the elegant, high-society ballrooms that make up modern London. The Vinyl Underground is led by Morrison Shepherd, a D-list celebrity darling, soul DJ, and son of an ex-footballer. Fresh out of prison and off a nasty coke habit, Morrison is joined by a fellow ex-con named Perv, whose seizures give him clues to crimes long before the cops, and Leah, a gorgeous morgue assistant who leads a double life online and represents the brawn of the team. Morrison's ex-flame Abi is reluctantly forced to join the team when her father is implicated for murder. A young boy's head (with diamonds in the eye sockets) washes up on the edge of the Thames and seems to be connected to a series of ritual killings, a drug called Khat, and Muti magic. Can they get to the bottom of it? Akhdar, Dadgar's villainous nephew, has usurped the Dozhakian throne and enslaved the Azurian people, igniting a civil war within the once peaceful kingdom. A prophecy foretells the coming of a stranger from a distant land who will vanquish the false king and restore the rightful ruler to the throne. Comics Radar 032 – 52 and Countdown to Final Crisis | Matt is back! We spend an hour talking about every DC event over the last few years. This is one for those that like more open less structured episodes. Warning there is an F-bomb in this episode, so it should be rated PG-13, at least. Comics Radar 031 – Interview with Sean Taylor. | I've been trying to get this episode posted for over a week now, but I keep getting waylaid with work and trying to find a new home, but I'm finally getting this one up. And Interview with Sean Taylor about his new Series, "Gene Simmons Dominatrix" (I didn't feel Dominatrix Interview was an accurate portrayal of this ep.) that really is more than you would expect by the covers. This episode does NOT contain any cursing, but does deal with sexuality and alternative sexuality a little bit, so you may want to preview it before letting any small children listen. preview pages are for issue 2. Issue 1 and 2 are already out and available at better LCSs everywhere. Comics Radar 029 – Fearless Interview | Another one of my favourite type of episodes, an interview. This time around I sit down with Mark Sable, Dave Roth, and PJ Holden, and talk about their upcoming book Fearless. I have to say I'm really looking forward to this book. Check out their website, Fearlesscomic.com and check out Mark's other work, Grounded and Paul Holden's work. and I play a PROMO for The ScapeCast Press Release from Image: A true man without fear strikes this November! August 28th, 2007 (Berkeley, CA) - This November GROUNDED's Mark Sable, 2000 AD's P.J. Holden and industry newcomer David Roth reinvent what it means to be a man without fear with FEARLESS, an all-new full color four-issue miniseries. "If you're going to do a superhero book these days you really need to do something unique," says Mark Sable. "FEARLESS is far from typical. The lead is a literal man without fear, as behind the mask he's paralyzed with a crippling anxiety disorder, but an anti-fear drug enables him to fight the war on crime. A life of dependency crashes down when his supply runs completely dry. What comes next is the crux of the series." Sable is best known for his work on the critically-acclaimed GROUNDED and artist P.J. Holden is revered for his work on 2000 AD, while co-writer David Roth has a background in film and television. However, the itch to work in comics has been a long time coming. David Roth explains, "This has been an amazing experience. Working with people as talented as Mark and PJ in this new medium has been a creative windfall. From inception to execution, it seems like every idea becomes a possibility, while this unprecedented level of control over the process has been both rewarding and educational. I couldn't be happier with the results of our collaboration on FEARLESS." FEARLESS #1 (SEP071951), a 32-page full color four-issue miniseries with a cover price of $2.99, will be available for order in the September issue of Previews and will go on sale November 7th. Fantastic!!
This podcast is a wonderful find. The two hosts are extremely passionate about their subject matter and far this production outshines other, perhaps more 'polished' 'casts. This is funny and very interesting to all those who are interested in comics. Highly recommended and cannot wait for the new 'casts.
